Railcard discounts

Hi folks,

Can a TOC excempt some of their tickets from railcard discounts?
We are 2 adults and 2 children wanting a Day Travelcard from Aylesbury to London Zones. 1-6.
I can get the Chiltern website to give me F&F discount on Off Peak Day Travelcards, but not the Family Travelcard.

I can understand that the Famiy Travelcard may already be discounted by Chiltern as an incentive to get families travelling by train, but I thought that Railcard discount applied to all tickets.

I’m not having much joy from the Chiltern Twitter team at the moment.

“No further Railcard discounts are available on Family Travelcards” seems to be in the T&Cs of everyone who sells them, suggesting this is a function of the ticket type, not the operator.

Railcard discounts don’t apply to all tickets - for example, the 26-30 Railcard can’t be used on Caledonian Sleeper tickets.

Family Travelcards are already sold at a discount against regular Travelcards, and are available to those not holding Railcards. (Biggest benefit being flat fare for children in the group.) They are marketed as a special offer, and are not available on all TOCs or routes.

So cannot make out the pricing for a Ride Cornwall Rover(one day)......ADULT£13.00 RAILCARD£10.75.

Railcard discounts don't apply to all tickets (with the possible exception of the Disabled Persons Railcard). There are general lists of exclusions on each of the railcard websites. The Family Travelcard is already an excellent value product, providing significant discount to encourage families to take leisure travel.

Railcard discount on Ride Cornwall is half the normal rate due, AIUI, to the validity on buses.

The three recently introduced "Great Way West Discoverer" rangers/rover have a railcard discount of just 10%.

Was looking at Railcards last night and i'm a little confused ! Can you buy a national or regional railcard ? I'm 53 and live in Manchester but i see nothing for my age group or am missing a trick here ?

Regional Railcards generally have residence requirements.

There is no national Railcard openly available to your age group travelling singly. You may however be eligible for the 16-25 Railcard (students), Disabled Railcard, Two Together Railcard, or Family & Friends Railcard depending on your specific circumstance.

Network Railcard is also available for purchase by anyone but they are obviously not valid in the Manchester area.

Well there is the "gold card area railcard" for your age range. e.g. the hatton-lapworth annual season ticket for £164. However Manchester is outside the gold card area, so unless you travel to south east alot probably not worth it for you.

Then surely its time an open age railcard was issused ? Sounds like your out of luck between the age of 30-65 as a single man or woman

Hundreds of members (maybe a slight exaggeration) have been raising the same point for years. Of course if you have a similarly out of luck friend you can get a “two together” card...

There are 55+ offers on some TOCs at certain times of year, TPE is usually one of them. So maybe not long to wait!
Having said that the value of the schemes has been eroded over the years by various restrictions (notably on ATW).

But you can get full railcard discounts on plusbus, a fully bus ticket, so why not this?

The terms of the 26-30 Railcard state that if a 26-30 discount is not available then you can use the 16-25 discount instead.
Does this apply to the Caledonian Sleeper?
