I thought it would be useful to have a thread for Northern 333 refurbs etc, as there is one for other northern units.

333 001 and 333 013 are currently in for refurbishment.

333001 left Holbeck Depot a few weeks ago, having been 'refurbished'. I understand that during its time at Neville Hill is has been used as a spares donor but has now been put back together. There may also be some minor contractural wrangles. I also heard there was going to be some kind of PR event at Skipton today, perhaps involving this unit, but I don't know if anything transpired.

333013 is still in the shed at Holbeck. I understand it was due to be released this week. As of last week no unit had been arranged to replace it.

Excellent units, well designed good ambiance and reliable. Only minor quibble is the seats are far too hard.

I've got to say, the livery looks amazing on the 170 and the 333. Even, dare I say, professional. Only time will tell what it looks like when the train is dirty and it's worn in, but for now... wow.

OMG! Why this train must look always like a Pokemon?!
Couldn't the bottom of the front be painted blue or dark grey?!
The ugliest thing on rails of our times! :(
Other parts (sides) of a new Northern livery look very good, so even bigger shame!

I sort of agree.

Just seen an interior pic.

Seats are retained, contrary to what we all thought (weren't they going for more standing room?). Otherwise it's the standard Northern full refurb, apparently no more horrid flat cloth, with moquette instead.

Actually looks really nice, suits the trains well inside.

Apparently the plan to "metro-ify" the driving cars has been shelved.

Good news on the seat covers!

Yeah, the 'Metro' seating in the end cars was dropped a while back (thank goodness). I'm looking forward to using it when it gets out & about, I usually get 3 333s a day (my usual morning Guiseley-Leeds (06:16) service is booked as a 321/322) so I should be able to see the interior for myself fairly quickly, even more when 333 013 gets back.

How do you know the seat covers are any better from a photo?!

Did your source know if it is destined to leave Neville Hill any time soon? I'm only 2 x 333s a day but would love to get a look at it. Might engineer an early/late start/finish once we know where it's going to be!

Using a newly refreshed train as a source of spare parts does not look too good. Dont Siemens who maintain the 333 in a dedicated shed hold spare parts?
I wonder if Siemens have to pay for the substitute dmu's when they can't raise enough emu's and do they also maintain the other emu's based at NL.

There'll be plenty of spares once HEx moves over to 387s

333001 now out in traffic. Here it is earlier today on the 1741 Leeds to Skipton departure.
