Have Arriva got any plans to introduce any new buses in the UK during 2019?

Some areas have vehicles that are over 15 years old now :(

I don't know if they are new, but it appear over the last week the Arriva Kent and Surrey MAX 34/35 routes are changing from mostly using MAX branded busses (some of which had had their 34/35 branding taken off) to mostly using Sapphire-branded busses. I'm not sure if they are fully new though, and there are always ones on this route that are neither.

Optare Solo's. Due to Derby Clean Air Zones.

I think Arriva are only investing in new fleet for the UK where they have too.
Routes 480/490 in Kent are receiving new Streetlites as well but there is not a threat of a clean air zone here...

The Sapphire liveried Streetlites recently allocated to Guildford for Routes 34/35 are not new vehicles, but are those cascaded from Northfleet by the brand new Streetlites for Route 480/490 in Kent.

The 480/490 has always received regular fleet upgrades, isn't there some sort of requirement?

Thats good, what will they be replacing?
They are replacing the solos on routes 5, 8 and 9 and some larger buses (possibly omnicity's) on the 7. The 5 looks like it will have shorter length ones due to the narrow roads but they haven't arrived.

There is also talk of some streetdecks as well for Derby as well.

There are no shorter length Streetlites due, they are all the same length.

I can't see Derby getting any Streetdecks as their only one has just left them.

Does anyone know if Arriva Southend is due to get anything anytime soon?

I'd love to see these get round Littleover if they are all the same size. I wouldn't take anything larger than the solos which are on the route at the moment.

Well they are already getting round there. The Solos are going, quickly.

I think Yorkshire are meant to be getting some new buses for the 110? E400 MMCs I'd presume.

I wonder if Arriva The Shires (all of their bus depots in, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, etc) are due anything new soon. They seem to have quite a few older vehicles still in use at the moment.

Last week I overheard 2 Gillingham based drivers saying that route 101 (Gillingham - Maidstone) is due to receive some new double deckers (type unknown) later this year.

Probably be Enviro 400 MMC's or Streetdecks.

They certainly are although a solo has managed to get on the 1/1A today.

I have read somewhere that some drivers had said that Streetdecks are coming to Derby and Tamworth sapphire routes (38 and 110). Possibly the reason 4600 has gone over to Tamworth?

There has definitely been talk of Streetdecks replacing the existing E400's on the Sapphire 38 in Derby. They have had two Streetdeck demonstrators at different times, so they certainly must have been considering them.

There has been suggestions elsewhere that Derby may be retaining a handful of Solo SRs for the one route.

Solos cascades are been used to replace some Cadets at Cannock and Shrewsbury are due a number to replace some of the oldest Solos there.

There have been a number of rather strange suggestions concerning the Derby fleet. I think all the SRs are going and no Streetdecks have been ordered.

Its going to be an interesting year i think. There are still loads of buses predating 2005 at a lot of Arriva depots across the UK that need to be replaced.

As DB are thinking of selling Arriva, you can be sure that any purchases will be at the minimum level necessary to keep the services operating.

Further to this, and the comments of DB wanting to sell Arriva, although I’m not someone who usually backs up Arriva, their fleet is newer overall compared to First. They still have loads of W/X/Y/51 plate Volvos going round in desperate need of replacement. That does kinda pull First down when you look at their fleets with so many old buses still in use, though with financial difficulties, I upmost support how some of the operations have/are being transformed on limited budget. The oldest Arriva Buses I can think of are the W plate ALX400s at Luton, which seemed to see quite limited use when I visited last year.

I spoke to an Arriva driver at Showbus last year he did point out that the Streetdeck has been so unreliable .Thats one of the reasons Arrriva are buying ADL products. The Streetlite and E200MMC share same engine but the Streetlite is just under powered.

I can't see more than £1bn for the whole company, and Arriva might be better off selling off part instead of a job lot. But then we have another first, and how much would Rotla, Go- ahead and Transdev buy?

Deutsche Bahn may sell Arriva to plug multi-billion gap in finances
Deutsche Bahn (DB) reportedly wants to sell Arriva in order to plug a £3.6bn gap in its finances, although reports from Berlin say Brexit is making it hard to value the rail business.

The German rail operator is holding crisis talks with the transport minister Andreas Scheuer tomorrow to discuss its dire finances and performance, according to a source close to the plans who spoke to Reuters.

Deutsche Bahn has come under fire for a decline in performance in domestic passenger rail and needs to plug a funding gap estimated to be at least €4bn.

With the source saying that the state-owned company is considering selling Arriva, opinions are reportedly split among politicians and the DB’s board and a decision is not expected to be made on Tuesday.

Deutsche Bahn has operated as Arriva’s international subsidiary since it bought the transport company in 2010, acquiring three National Rail franchises – Arriva Trains Wales, CrossCountry and Chiltern Railways – as well as Tyne & Wear Metro, Wrexham, and Shropshire and a chain of bus companies.

DB currently has had rail and bus operations in the UK since the purchase, and it has operations in thirteen other countries, but Arriva’s headquarters are based in Sunderland.

The Handelsblatt newspaper, which first reported the plan, claimed that the complete sale of Arriva could raise between €4bn and €4.5bn.

But Reuters’ sources said that there had been problems valuing Arriva due to the UK’s looming departure from the European Union.

Last week Deutsche Bahn was in the news demanding Network Rail pay compensation for the extensive delays in electrifying routes for its Northern Rail franchise which has come under fire for recent poor performances.

In November, DB entered crisis talks with the UK government over the massive levels of disruption which have reportedly crippled the franchise’s finances.
