I see a local MSP is prattling on about the lack of toilets again, even claiming it should be a legal requirement. Whilst they are a good thing to have what is the big deal? Thousands of people manage to travel between Inverclyde and Glasgow by car, taxi and the bus, none of which have toilets, yet when it comes to the train its somehow a breach of human rights? And how on earth did people survive for 40 years of the 303s?
I think people need to get real with EMU preservation. If the likes of the CIGs and the 504 struggle to be viable in preservation (they are about as loco compatible as you’ll get from an EMU) then anything PEP-derivative and later is going to struggle to justify anything other than one car and “stuffed and mounted” at that.I would rather if possible see it running under its own power
Isn’t 313 201 being lined up for preservation? Don’t think there is any need to preserve any 314/315/507/508 if that is the caseI think people need to get real with EMU preservation. Except it caught fire a couple of weeks ago and is now unlikely to see service again.Isn’t 313 201 being lined up for preservation? Don’t think there is any need to preserve any 314/315/507/508 if that is the case
202 is alive and well. I’m on it as I type.Anyone aware if any other 314s have been stopped recently? I haven’t seen 202 in service for a while.
Whilst I see where you coming from, with a bit of ingenuity a unit could be used as hauled stock, after all if a new kettle can be built from scratch then a unit could be adapted ( after all 2 504's were) . But ( and its a big BUT ) would it warrant the cost and effort?I think people need to get real with EMU preservation. I was passing through Glasgow Central at lunchtime today and saw the following 314's in service
314205 11.51 Cathcart Outer Circle
314214 11.55 Glasgow Central - Gourock
314216 12.12 Glasgow Central - Paisley Canal
314215 12.15 Cathcart Inner Circle
314211 12.25 Glasgow Central - Gourock
The 11.42 service to Paisley Canal and the 11.45 service to Newton were both SPT Carmine and Cream 314's, I didn't catch the numbers unfortunately.
214 still going strong- I’m on it right now.Looking at last overhauls, the following got to be coming close to being stopped
207
205
203
214
Without seeing mileage, they might have longer. 201 is strange being stopped as it was one of the last to be done, but again maybe stopped with something more than out of mileage
314's seen just before lunchtime at Glasgow Central today:
314202 - 11.12 to Paisley Canal
314207 - 11.15 Cathcart Inner and 11.51 Cathcart Outer Circle services
314208 - 11.42 to Paisley Canal
314214 - 11.45 to Newton via Maxwell Park
314210 - 11.55 to Gourock
314215 - 12.15 Cathcart Inner Circle
Nice to see 215 displaying the ‘Via’ destination blind tonight, 2045 service to Newton, via Glasgow Central and Belshill! A good one for the SPT Roundabout ticket.
Currently on 214 to Neilston
203 on the 8.55 Glasgow Central to Wemyss Bay this morning, just saw it passing through CardonaldLooking at last overhauls, the following got to be coming close to being stopped

Quite a rare phenomenon, the ghosts of journeys past. Either that or someone is just fiddling with the blind handle! All of the 314s I’ve seen this week have been displaying something on the ‘via’ destination blind which is unusual.
Did they do Motherwell to Glasgow via KIngs park ?Quite a rare phenomenon, the ghosts of journeys past. Either that or someone is just fiddling with the blind handle!
3 coach 211 packed to the gunnels on last night’s 1635 to Neilston. The 380s have been a major improvement on space
