Does anyone know how the IW3 weekday diagram will remain for?

Which particular service are you after because:

IW3

1A79 06.47 Penzance - Paddington
1C82 13.03 Paddington - Plymouth
1A96 16.57 Plymouth - Paddington
1C98 21.03 Paddington - Plymouth

is the LTP diagram, it’s being amended weekly by the STP so IW3 may look completely different week by week.

For example looking at the STP for 26-28 Feb it has the above workings on different diagrams:

1A79: IW9 (HST)
1C82: IW2 (HST)

1A96 & 1C98: IW960 & IW966 (802 5 Cars)

With the diversions over the next 3 weeks, those dates probably aren't the most reflective of the diagram.

There's about 2 diagrams that have work on the Cotswolds line

These are the remaining LTP weekday diagrams with work on the Cotswold Line, which Clarence Yard has said above are due to switch to IET operation on March 11.

1W42 21.48 Paddington - Worcester SH

IW9

1P04 05.11 Worcester SH - Paddington
1W00 08.21 Paddington - Hereford
1P31 12.09 Hereford - Paddington
1C91 17.33 Paddington - Paignton
2A65 21.35 Paignton - Newton Abbot

IW10

1A72 05.53 Plymouth - Paddington
1D20 09.50 Paddington - Oxford
1P26 12.01 Oxford - Paddington
1W27 13.22 Padington - Worcester FS

1W03 18.22 Paddington - Hereford

Looking at the STP diagrams for the next couple of weeks up to Fri 1st March, there are no HST diagrams over the Cotswolds Line.

Some workings picked from the three LTP diagrams mentioned in Jimms post above:

1W00 & 1W42 are now part of a 9 car IET diagram (NP64)
1D20 / 1P26 / 1W27 / 1P37 & 1W03 are all on a 9 car IET diagram (NP62).

Hopefully the final week of IW8/9/10 will return to HSTs. It'd be a shame for them to go away so prematurely on runs through Oxford & the Cotswold line.

Are there any STP changes which have permitted HSTs to run through there on Saturdays/Sundays until 1st March? As there isn't any on the LTP runs.

I did look at the SO, SuO & SX diagrams. Unless there’s some amendments forthcoming!

Looks like it is the end, given that this switch has coincided with the Whiteball Tunnel blockade, which has presumably freed up a number of IETs from West Country services. That blockade continues until Friday, March 8 - with more nine-car 802s being accepted all the time - and staff said on board that last Friday's 18.22 Paddington-Hereford was the last HST - post 686 by mikeastons on the previous page.

While the HSTs have given sterling service, the improvement in punctuality on the Cotswold Line as more and more services switched to IETs in recent months has been plain to see. Slam doors and lots of unstaffed stations were never a happy combination - though the train managers will probably need a new exercise regime now.

It seems a bit dumb to take 80x sets off the West of Englands during the blockade given the service reduction. You might think more 80x would be used as they have higher seating capacity.

I imagine it's to do with crewing issues, it's hard enough finding enough crew with the blockade running down here without the need to have to double man all the little 5 car pairings. Far better to use HSTs for the next 3 weeks (or indeed 9 car IETs)

1B15 0845 London Paddington - Swansea / 1L62 1229 Swansea - London Paddington was a HST today vice IET.

Not HST related, but for interest: GWR cannot run more 80X units on the WoE diverts.

800s (5s or 9s) cannot be diagrammed to start or finish anywhere other than North Pole, Stoke Gifford, Maliphant or a small handful of agreed outstanding locations - none of which are west of Exeter.

802 5s in pairs cannot be diagrammed via Honiton as they cannot pass another '10' formation anywhere other than Axminster. (Yes, the last one down and the first one up is diagrammed a pair, but the thinking is that there won't be anything around at those times of the day that they'll have problems crossing!)

There are not enough 802 9s in service yet to cover the service. (Just 3 diagrams throughout the entire block period: IW901, 902, 903.)

Hence so many HST diagrams for the duration of the Whiteball block!

Does anyone know if the 1003 1C77 PAD-PZ on the 20th April (Saturday) will be a HST.

Cheers Nat.

mmmmm Looking at the above.. It seems 1C89 :- 1633 London Paddington - Penzance is going to be an HST for my journey in 2 weeks time (last schedule weekday Whiteball tunnel closure)
That means that my 1st Class tickets I've pre-booked in coach E (IET) are not going to happen as those seat numbers don't seem to exist on a HST!

Looks like these diagrams are incomplete, as 5 workings terminating at Penzance and only 2 starting !

What’s incomplete about them? The other workings starting at Penzance aren’t taking the diversionary route, hence why they aren’t there.

Why didn’t you say that in the original post then?! If you haven’t included other workings then by definition they are incomplete.

It’s a perfectly correct comment that “valleys boy” has made.

It would be very much appreciated if the other workings could be included, so we have the complete picture over the diversionary period...

A bit disappointed to find that 1P31, my train from oxford to london today is not an HST although it's down in the diagrams. Are they finished on the cotswolds line now then? Maybe I should have read more of this thread...
