Its going to be an interesting year i think. There are still loads of buses predating 2005 at a lot of Arriva depots across the UK that need to be replaced.
Is 2005 a limit though?

Now DDA is out of the way, I think we will go back to buses lasting 20 years.

There's nothing wrong with older buses if they're looked after. And some of the older Arriva buses have been looked after for instance the W-reg ALX300s up here.

The trouble is that many of the older buses are cascades from London. London is not kind to buses. E-leather seats and MAX branding doesn't disguise it.

I can't see more than £1bn for the whole company, and Arriva might be better off selling off part instead of a job lot. But then we have another first, and how much would Rotla, Go- ahead and Transdev buy?

When you say £1bn for the whole company are you just referring to the UK operations? If DB sell Arriva I would expect them to sell the entire company which in the year to December 2017 had operating profits of €569m

NEx WM are still operating buses with BU51 registrations although I don't think here are too many still in service

It's more likely to be the chassis type - Volvo, Scania etc (as long as the bodywork is a 'quality' make too

You don't tend to see lightweight double deckers in the same way you see lightweight single deckers.

There are so many variables, you're quite right though. Even with chassis, it depends on bodywork manufacturer; Plaxton Pointer bodied Darts lasted in a way the Marshall and Caetano ones never did.

StreetLites 4224, 4261 & 62 from Southend have been swapped for Volvo Eclipses 3818, 19 & 26 from Colchester. Also there is an Optare Metrocity on loan to Arriva Guildford.

Look out for Arriva's minibuses. Showing the kind of professionalism you've no doubt come to expect, Arriva have published the following:

Sevenoaks local services 1 and 2 from 7th April 2018
Start Date: 07/04/2019

Would customers please note that, in response to insufficient numbers of people using them, our local services in Sevenoaks, the 1 which currently runs from Dunton Green to Sevenoaks, and the 2 which runs from Kemsing and Seal to Sevenoaks, will both be discontinued.

Over the last few years, we have employed a number of innovative approaches to try and revive the services, but the lack of passengers has left the routes no longer commercially sustainable.

As alternatives, Go-Coach Hire will be providing a new Service 6 between Sevenoaks and Noah’s Ark (extending to Dunton Green on Saturdays) from Monday 8th April, while Riverhead Tesco’s will served by their Services 401, 431 and 435

If the minibuses head your way, you'd be well advised to start looking for alternative travel plans, given the havoc these vehicles have wreaked so far on their trail of destruction across Surrey, Sussex & Kent.

I hope they don't come to Southend.

Still a few of the Caetano ones knocking about, the Marshall ones have as you said died out completely.
Someone mentioned Scania earlier on, the OmniCity's which were assembled in Poland aren't much cop it has to be said.

Can anyone shed any light on what routes the Derby based Streetlites operate?

On two visits to Derby bus station I only saw a small number of them despite waiting around for several hours.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

They run the routes that start at The Spot (the 'other' side of that shopping centre).

The only route that they are likely to turn up on at the bus station is the P&R. The other routes that are almost always Streetlite operated is the 5/5A & 7 which go from The Spot/Babington Lane or the 8 & 9 which start from Albert Street.

When I have been in Derby I have seen the Arriva Streetlites on the 8 & 9 from Albert St, and as stated above on various services that run from the Babington Lane / St Peters St / Osmaston Rd loop which is the other side of the shopping centre.

Several of Gillingham's E200 mmc's are being repainted into Fastrack livery and are being subsequently transferred to Northfleet with several of there 15reg streetlites moving to Gillingham in exchange.

I believe arriva southern counties just got a batch of 4 new streetlites for Hemel Hempstead. Slightly weird because Hemel Hempstead has fairly modern buses compared to other depots. The only fairly old buses are an '03 Wright cadet, '04 solo and a bunch of '07 plaxton centros.

Well, an 03-reg is 16 years old and similar buses are being withdrawn elsewhere.

About time Hemel and Stevenage had new buses for the 300/301 Centraline. The Enviros have been hammered for 10 years on than route. They are falling apart.

Probably won't happen before the route is split next month unfortunately.

Hopefully it will make the 300/301 more reliable by splitting the service, new Streetlites are due in Hemel for services 300/302

I've seen some of the new Streetlites in Hemel today already on service 4, surprisingly if they are for the 300/302 they are only short version ones, would have thought would have needed a bit more capacity unless the Hemel - St Albans section is light loaded?

Also noticed Hemel have got some ex Tower Transit ex First small Enviro 200's.

Quite surprised to hear about the 300/301 changes, in some ways I hope it works but a bit sad that the number 300 is only being used for the short route between Hemel and St Albans.

Are the new buses to standard Arriva spec or something a bit more luxurious?

Agreed about the 301 changes - I would have thought to keep the long routes as 300/301 and make the 302 the new short route.

Had a ride from Grove Hill to Marlowes earlier and I thought it was a pretty decent bus.
Didn't get a chance to experience it in the other direction to see what its' hill climbing abilities are.
Don't know if they've fitted wifi to the buses it wasn't switched on if they have.
