It does look like moquette, doesn't it? A welcome change if so.

I was hoping to pick it up today so I could confirm, but it'll be a lottery now as I'm going to be heading via Bradford Interchange to pick up my train at Forster Square, so who knows where it'll be (assuming its not 2V05 which is still stranded at Kirkstall). But yes, it looks markedly different from the previous seat covers they've gone with, although wasn't there a rumour previously that Northern had a change of mind on material? So this could be the first piece of evidence of this?

It’s the first unit I’ve seen that I would say actually looks “as new”, looks like they’ve done a great job on it

As per usual, it’s met with almost entirely negative reaction

Complaints that it’s not a new train, complaints about 3+2 seating, complaints that the train is apparently 20 years old, that the trains are never on time blah blah blah...

I think it's hilarious tbh.

The refurbished 333 looks good IMO, it's nice to see Northern have decided to use moquette instead too.

Yes, that's the move away from the flat fabric started. 150126 has also been returned with moquette.

Has it been repainted as well?

With this and 150125 already PRM compliant, I'd imagine they won't be out of traffic for very long.

Uncomfortable seats in 3+2 are still uncomfortable seats in 3+2 however you cover them.

But comfort is subjective. I find the seats in 333s to be perfectly fine, other than the headrests being covered with 20 years of assorted hair product!

I do wonder how much money has been wasted covering seats in sub-standard material though.

That's more like it. The mind boggles as to how it has taken this long to get to this point. Ridiculous faffing with an interim colour cover and then a flat cloth that gets mucky quickly. Much money wasted unless the cloth supplier has a claim coming their way.

If 3+2 makes sense anywhere it makes sense on these routes where most peak traffic is heading into Leeds and so circulation space is not a critical as on some other routes.

What the plan with the new electrics th at will run on these routes, 3+2 or 2+2?

So much has been wasted with these new trains and the refurbishments of the old ones

As you say the flat cloth will need replacing, but I bet it won’t be until the next franchise.

I expect at some stage extra padding will be added to every train nationwide fitted with ironing boards, if it reaches a head at some point.

The contoured base cushion used by ScotRail does make a massive difference - I've tried the two side by side in the Class 385 mockup. I'd agree that that cushion should be fitted to all trains with that type of seat, and that would basically solve the problem. (You don't need thick padding on the seat back, as that isn't supporting very much).

That's just 387s 700s 717s 707s 377/6 377/7 ?

Not counting northern and scotrail as they have the improved seat covers

There was a refurbished 150 at Dewsbury earlier that smelled like it had an issue with the tank (or the outlet for said tank). Was fine inside, I rode in the toilet car from Batley to Dewsbury... but stepping off at DEW it absolutely reeked to high heaven. At first I thought it was just Dewsbury, but the smell went once the service headed off to Wigan.

The poor woman! I think to some people Northern has become such a toxic brand that no matter what they do they will be pulled

If a state owned opperator took over and did a good job then that sort of reaction would still be commonplace. Some people get angry about a problem but some are just angry full stop, its not the trains, or the government, economic system etc etc, its just them. Its a good attempt at social media PR and hopefully she won't be disheartened by some of the comments.

Whilse I'm sure Northern are very proud of their 333 as it finally gets rid of the Metro branding they are the last I would have considering doing anything with.

While they have been around a long time they always look smart enough inside and doing short hops all day they don't get the 'food and drink' abuse I see on the long distance stock. I was on an ex Scotrail 158 this evening and it was an absolute disgrace. I chose to stand rather than sit on the seats which were all filthy. I was also tempted to wipe my feet on the way out due to the state of the carpet.
