This forum was a massive help on my journey through the stages to getting offered a Trainee Driver role, I’m wondering if it would be of any interest to anyone for me to document the journey throughout training as it happens?

I’d have loved to have read something like that when I was going through the recruitment process.

However, it will be a challenge to have the time to stay on top of it when you’re training, as you’ll have so much to do in terms of homework and revision, and the training is quite fast paced. Lots of the topics you’ll cover in class won’t mean much to readers who haven’t started yet either. (Which is why lots of people advise against studying the Rule Book before you start)

If you manage to find time to post updates, I reckon brief course highlights and tips/tricks you’ve picked up to aid with learning may be the most beneficial for readers.

Congratulations Lewis H, and all the best for your training. :)

My Gosh this would be helpful. Even if you could give a brief outline (due to lack of time), this would be both fascinating and extremely useful!
Please do!!

A Brief to the point week by week journey through the stages would be brilliant if you think you could do it and keep it up.

Congrats on getting an offer etc

I think someone did this with Abellio GA not a terrible idea for those who want to know, saying that it would be good if you probably included how the actual recruitment process too

The thing is with the recruitment process is that every TOC is different, for example with SWR, I did paper and computer tests in the same day and had the MMI after my DMI, whereas other operators splits the tests up, some have MMI’s after assessments.

Also this forum already has a wealth of info for the interviews and assessments, on a daily basis someone asks about them. I just havent seen much in the way of the actual training.

I will find the time at the end of each week to outline the process of training, passing on any tips or things I would have differently as I go on.

Yeah I get what you mean, although driver training also varies operator to operator doesn’t mean it will be any less interesting for those still interesting in knowing how the whole thing works, yes there’s a wealth of information on here but not in the documented way that your planning on doing your training experience,
It’s only a suggestion and judging by how long some of the processes are I doubt you’d be able to remember all of it anyway lol, but I wish you all the luck it really is a great career to be in

I think it was onelowban. Clever guy and good updates

Thank you. The updates have slowed now as we have started our hours this week, though I have had rest days and spare jobs so not much driving yet.

Yeah I would maybe go through the recruitment for whatever TOC you did as some are different as you say. At least people applying for that specific TOC will know what to expect.

I found updating every weekend no problem. This is my thread for GA: https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/journey-greater-anglia-trainee-driver.172214/
