I think it looks lovely . I love the red.

The advert at I guess Darlington someone posted on here looks very nice too.

Well, LNER won't have to worry about me complaining about my Azuma trips!

I'm pleased there's better table seat alignment with the windows in the photo - it's half aligned in the virtual tour. Maybe the coach is a different layout.

LNER Class 800 and Class 801 seat maps in the attached document

Thanks very much! Interesting, though unfortunately they don't show the window positioning like the current LNER seat maps do (and have since at least the East Coast days). The Twitter photos linked to by 385001 put my mind at ease, as it seems there is decent window alignment on at least one set of tables per coach. But when booking, the current seat maps are ideal, as they let you choose the best aligned seats in any coach. Is there any information on this for the Azumas, or will we get 'proper' seat maps with windows shown when they are live?

Type in the Google search box 'lner azuma seating plan' and you'll see a page that says in green something like 'www.whatdotheyknow.com'. Click on that And you'll find a link to it by moving down the page.

I still never found that link with my search, but maybe it's because I didn't use Google.

Here's a clue: the Quiet Coach you'll be surprised at - I was. In my opinion, it explains the popularity of the Quiet Coach on LNER routes.

I think I might be missing something – the quiet coach layout seems the same as the other standard coaches (in the file FQTV posted)?

I'm pleased there's better table seat alignment with the windows in the photo - it's half aligned in the virtual tour. Maybe the coach is a different layout.

That was exactly my concern when looking at the virtual tour (which seemed to show all tables with a big wall section in the middle)! I, too, am pleased to see that things look better than it implied.

Does anyone know if there's a reason why the seats don't seem to have anything above their headrests that people can grab onto while walking up (or standing in) the gangway? In first class there's something looking like a handle that would probably suffice, but not much at all to assist anyone moving along or standing in standard class. Apologies if it's old ground, but I've just noticed it.

From the photos above, it looks like there could be grab handle on the gangway side of the seat - approx 30-40 cm from the top of the seat.

Thanks.
I think I'd naturally prefer something a bit higher up while moving up the carriage. The present stock has plastic 'cat ear' extensions above some seats, which seem quite convenient. No doubt I'll get used to a different position through time but just feel I'll end up slapping a few shoulders as I pass along through lack of accuracy.

If I was Japanese I would not want to own up to Japanese Tech in this train because it is rubbish.
Any tech, if incorrectly specified, is rubbish, regardless of where it was built. The 395s also have Japanese tech, and have been a far more successful introduction (as discussed at length on this forum!). But yes, Japanese tech is rubbish if it's specified Britons who have no clue of what they wanted from a train, procured as part of a project fraught with risks.

Maybe they are aiming for an "Official" launch on May 15th - but will do a soft intro before then to avoid any bad publicity from any issues that might arise - such as botched aircon leaking onto the heads of vip dignitaries? Not that anything like that would ever happen on a government procured fleet like these!

Wonder what will be the first service on 15th. It was originally going to be to 07:00 Hull Executive.

Ok. I'm assuming this means May AP tickets for the weekday service from Hull should be released soon.

Sorry, I didn't realise this thread listed the diagrams. I've done a separate thread on the Azuma diagrams. If you'd rather these were kept on this thread then that's fine.

Now that we have an in service date this is probably the moment where it becomes apprioraite to have a seperate diagrams thread in the appriorate sub-forum. This makes it easy to locate the diagrams and post requests without getting lost in a flurry of posts about the trains more generally (i.e. feedback from people who are using them or technical issues). So going forward could we please use this thread for diagrams and requests for diagrams?

Many thanks,

Richard Clinnick on Twitter confirmed, around 11am, that 800103/107/109/111 have been accepted for passenger service, with 800112 due this week. 4 more will follow by the end of March - from 800102/104/106/108/113.

Looks like we won't be seeing 800101, 800105 or 800110 for a little longer yet.

Maybe it's just me but it still feels like they'll be ready well before May.

To give LNER it's credit, I reckon that it knows how to properly introduce new trains. I get the sense that they are investing a great deal of effort and planning to get this right first time. Better to be over - prepared and deliver seemlessly, than do a half - baked rush job and end up with poor service delivery. I reckon others could learn.

It will be that date in May, as they want reservations to match the train in use, due to the way the coaches are lettered.

If they launch any earlier the set will be in use with no seat reservations, not the image lner want to have.

800101 is still at Hitachi Newton Aycliffe, having a rebuild, only 8 coaches coupled and the end car still inside.

800105 for what ever reason is yet to turn a wheel on the mainline.

800110 has yet to start its fault free running.
