Has any crew training started yet on the ex LO 172's ready for their new duties here in the midlands starting in May. I have seen sets stabled on Tyseley but they don't seem to move much.

There have been training runs from Tyseley to Stratford this week, not sure when the next will be.

Obviously to us natives or former natives of the West Midlands region, that is Stratford upon Avon that is being referred to and not Stratford in East London.
It would be rather far and arduous to do that long a training run, but I think the clarification is probably useful, since neither people in London nor the West Midlands are automatically likely to clarify which Stratford they mean!

To be pedantic, there is only one Stratford and that's in London - Stratford Upon Avon sounds completely different pronouncing it unless you're lazy and miss off the Upon Avon part.

Not like Gillingham in Dorset/Kent, Rainham in London ie Essex/Kent etc....

Will be happening all the way through to May at least. You've then got to factor in possible 1/2 day conversions for those depots that sign the /2's and /3's.

Sure has started. Not sure when the rest of the ex-LO units will move up.

On an unrelated point, anyone heard when the 153's will leave WMT?

I know two have moved to Tyseley and are in use for training. A further three moved to Ilford for modification but did they ever leave? There are paths in the system to move the last three to Ilford on Monday. A win for the West Midlands but a mess for GOBLIN.

There are still only 2 x 172/0's on Tyseley.

The above Peter Tandy picture is a Chiltern 172/1 on the Chiltern service usually a 165 turn 1532 Leamington to Stratford UA

Random observation I don't think has been noted:
Looking closely through the windows (from passing trains) it appears that one of the units at Tyseley has had seat covers fitted now (the one closer to the station, I think 006), but the other one is still bare... (as per all weekdays last week and I think the week before too)

I would imagine the seat covers will be the same as fitted to that 323 which has been refitted with the post 2020 mods?

Looks like some of them were due to move from Ilford to Tyseley last Monday evening but it got cancelled

It's now been rescheduled for Friday night

It will be interesting to see how many sets (assuming it happens)

As far as I can work out, unless anyone knows different, there are still six sets to go north - 172003 (stopped in Jan), 172005/008 (Feb) and 172001/004/007 (March). I don't imagine any of the last three will be ready to move yet.

That sounds right. On Monday 18th March, the last 3 moved from Willesden to Ilford in 2 separate operations, 001+007 in the morning and 004 in the afternoon.
Can anyone suggest a technical reason why they could not couple all 3 sets together?
