You wouldn’t need to double up on fully trained guards. All that’s needed is a “door closing assistant” - a young lad/lass that travels with the train and runs along the platform to assist with closing the doors. Training would take 60 seconds - after all, passengers are expected to close the doors without any training... Some relatively cheap short term contracts would eliminate a lot of dwell time delays.Amd wgere will a cadre of guards fully trained on slam door HSTs emerge from? I guess Scotrail don't have fully trained up guards ready to double up sitting around twiddling their thumbs?
On Wednesday 13th the 838am from Queen St to Aberdeen had 43146 as the rear power car. Today (15th) the same train had 43012 at the back with at least the final coach still in FGW green. Both power cars were Scotrail 7cities blue/grey
Looks like there’s a refurbished set in Queen St today, for staff training I assume?
No, it worked in on 1T10 0853 Dundee - Glasgow Queen Street and formed 1A59 1039 Glasgow Queen Street - Dundee. It’ll be back down on 1T34 1646 Dundee - Glasgow Queen Street this evening.Looks like there’s a refurbished set in Queen St today, for staff training I assume?

Oh wow, I just thought ScotRail would have made a bigger deal of the Inter7City sets being deployed on other routes! No, it worked in on 1T10 0853 Dundee - Glasgow Queen Street and formed 1A59 1039 Glasgow Queen Street - Dundee. ScotRail have been doing a good (well as good as can be expected) job of treating the classic and refurbished sets as almost completely different IMHO. Either way, good to see the refurbs operating out of Queen St. Are they able to operate via Perth to Aberdeen at the moment?Given that the overwhelming majority of the stock will be introduced in an unrefurbished and tatty state and are way behind schedule and i can understand why Scotrail aren't proclaiming 'older, less reliable, slam door trains will be along soon to dump human waste on the tracks and bugger up the timetables on your route soon' doesn't make for the best piece of PR. Wisely Scotrail are keeping schtum.
Are the maintenance teams gaining confidence in looking after the HST fleet? I assume there is some mentoring from the GWR teams that used to look after them? Could also do with a period of no breakdowns.

I would expect so. I heard that there are ex LNER maintenance staff working at Haymarket (a rumour, but a plausible one).
Phew. I'm glad that someone has first-hand knowledge that it's the case - I was worried that I'd started an Internet rumor (I had posted about 100 pages ago that I expected some to transfer over and then started to see it being quoted in this thread as "I heard somewhere that...")There's at least one that has made the move as far as I'm aware.

Does anyone know what power cars are out for overhaul exam at either Inverness or Haymarket?
Thanks,
Nat
I forget is it Haymarket for overhaul and Inverness for Mk3 overhaul? Cheers anyway. Not sure, although 43124 has recently had an engine swap at Haymarket (scheduled overhaul)
If so then that's a lot of empty miles for the HST sets travelling up and down ScotlandI forget is it Haymarket for overhaul and Inverness for Mk3 overhaul? Cheers anyway.
Why do they have to be empty miles? If so then that's a lot of empty miles for the HST sets travelling up and down Scotland
You have a point, they'll probably do timetabled workings. I wasn't quite thinking that far.Why do they have to be empty miles?
It'll be an extended version of how Scotrail used to operate the sleeper - the entire fleet would cycle through Inverness, despite only a half-set making it up there every night. You have a point, they'll probably do timetabled workings. I wasn't quite thinking that far.
Any further updates on refurb 3?
