Amd wgere will a cadre of guards fully trained on slam door HSTs emerge from? I guess Scotrail don't have fully trained up guards ready to double up sitting around twiddling their thumbs?
You wouldn’t need to double up on fully trained guards. All that’s needed is a “door closing assistant” - a young lad/lass that travels with the train and runs along the platform to assist with closing the doors. Training would take 60 seconds - after all, passengers are expected to close the doors without any training... Some relatively cheap short term contracts would eliminate a lot of dwell time delays.

On Wednesday 13th the 838am from Queen St to Aberdeen had 43146 as the rear power car. Today (15th) the same train had 43012 at the back with at least the final coach still in FGW green. Both power cars were Scotrail 7cities blue/grey

The set with 43146 has been up in Inverness (worked 1725 to Glasgow QS two days on the trot). It has 43003 at the other end

Looks like there’s a refurbished set in Queen St today, for staff training I assume?
No, it worked in on 1T10 0853 Dundee - Glasgow Queen Street and formed 1A59 1039 Glasgow Queen Street - Dundee. It’ll be back down on 1T34 1646 Dundee - Glasgow Queen Street this evening.

Is this set 1 or 2?.....There was talk of no.2 being out in service sometime soon.

Oh wow, I just thought ScotRail would have made a bigger deal of the Inter7City sets being deployed on other routes!

Given that the overwhelming majority of the stock will be introduced in an unrefurbished and tatty state and are way behind schedule and i can understand why Scotrail aren't proclaiming 'older, less reliable, slam door trains will be along soon to dump human waste on the tracks and bugger up the timetables on your route soon' doesn't make for the best piece of PR. Wisely Scotrail are keeping schtum.

ScotRail have been doing a good (well as good as can be expected) job of treating the classic and refurbished sets as almost completely different IMHO. Either way, good to see the refurbs operating out of Queen St. Are they able to operate via Perth to Aberdeen at the moment?

Are the maintenance teams gaining confidence in looking after the HST fleet? I assume there is some mentoring from the GWR teams that used to look after them? Could also do with a period of no breakdowns.

I would expect so. I heard that there are ex LNER maintenance staff working at Haymarket (a rumour, but a plausible one).

I know there's been some modifications identified to improve reliability as well.

40+ Years of experience is hard to replicate!

I'd be hoping to see the refurbished sets operating on the HML at some point in the not too distant future too

There's at least one that has made the move as far as I'm aware.
Phew. I'm glad that someone has first-hand knowledge that it's the case - I was worried that I'd started an Internet rumor (I had posted about 100 pages ago that I expected some to transfer over and then started to see it being quoted in this thread as "I heard somewhere that...") :D

Does anyone know what power cars are out for overhaul exam at either Inverness or Haymarket?

Thanks,
Nat

To be honest, it was probably on this thread that I heard that rumour....!

You have a point, they'll probably do timetabled workings. I wasn't quite thinking that far.
It'll be an extended version of how Scotrail used to operate the sleeper - the entire fleet would cycle through Inverness, despite only a half-set making it up there every night.

I got the 1739 Edinburgh-Inverness as an HST again on Friday night, the last time I got an HST on any Scotrail service was as long ago as 8 February.

That time the set rolled into Waverley from the depot, empty of passengers but full of litter. Exactly the same thing happened on Friday but with an added bit of negligence - old seat reservation labels still in place. I still don't understand why this service can start out with a clean 170 but a filthy HST. The thing felt it hadn't been touched for weeks, if the labels had 'GWR' printed on them and I'd found a long dead copy of the Bristol Evening Post on the seat then I wouldn't have been surprised.

We set off around ten minutes late because of the earlier problems at Newbridge and the ensuing dislocation at Waverley, fair enough.

There were plenty of apologies for lateness but no acknowledgement in any announcements that seat reservations didn't apply, so we were then treated to five minutes of chaos after the Haymarket stop while infrequent passengers with luggage debated their seats on the basis of their tickets and the incorrect labels. One Kirkcaldy commuter moved seat twice, and then gave up and spent the rest of the journey standing even though there were vacant seats in the coach. The overall experience was poor, at least on a 170 those having to stand would have been a bit more comfortable.

Do they think that running the unrefurbished sets means that they can get away with careless day to day operation until the refurbed fleet is complete? That's what it feels like on the basis of the few trips I've made where an HST has actually turned up.

It really isn't great, and it's low level stuff like this that reinforces the idea of a complete lack of confidence in the project overall.

As an aside on the reservations muddle, does anyone know to what train type Scotrail intercity reservations are made to at the moment - I'm assuming that it's still 170s?

As per the little whisper I'd heard the second refurb will (hopefully should be ) out in service from next week,up and down the east coast.
