Glad to see 001 out and about, especially after seeing a 322 struggling at Guiseley yesterday morning with power. They've brought a lot of relief to the EMU workings but like the 321s are starting to struggle. Finally caught 013 this afternoon, twice as it happens and I have to say its a nice job. And yes, the new seat covers are moquette!!

I'm on 333001 again this evening. It does look good, inside and out.

Presumably most passengers either:

a) Haven't noticed the difference

or

b) Think it is a new train

I've seen 13 out and about a few times this last week but it seems to have escaped being allocated to the 1703 Leeds-Ilkley to date!

The Full interior refurbishments make me wonder why they never got full interior refurbishments (mainly new seat covers) when they were re-painted into the the red and blue livery in 2009.

Same with m,e at the time I was led to believe they were going to get an interior refresh

Was it actually a repaint, though, or just some stickers over the top?

I just used re-paint because re-liveried just sounded weird (i'm not dumb, I know it's vinyl) but either way the previous Franchise under Serco-Abellio never changed the seat covers to the dark Blue covers with white stripes when the 333s received their current red and blue livery. And Does it matter that I used re-paint?

One driving vehicle of 333011 was being dragged out of the shed at Holbeck by a tamper this morning repainted.

I saw a photo of 333011 in refurbishment and it looks like there's some remains of the original livery with the silver 'N' vinyl, that it was in until 2009.

I guess almost everyone did, When I got on a 333 after the 2009 livery change I was Shocked that they didn't get a full interior refresh, all the other units Northern had at the time received an interior refresh. Also if i'm honest, I would have been Shocked 333001 and 333013 didn't receive a full interior refresh when being refurbished into the Blue and White Northern by Arriva Livery.

With that Can I ask anyone who has rode 333001 or 333013 if the automated announcements have changed or not? (i'd definitely be surprised if they have changed)

I've been on 333 013 a couple of times and that still had the original announcements, well at least as far as I recall. I'm so used to them that I tend to zone them out, but I'm sure I would have noted a change! :D

TBH, I wouldn't think the new announcements would suit the 333s, especially since their announcements are triggered upon the release of the doors.

For me the bigger surprise was that 009 didn't go straight to Holbeck for refurbishment when it was "revived" from its previous role as the Neville Hill Christmas tree.

When did 333009 get revived from being the Neville Hill 'Christmas Tree' and what even do you mean by 'Christmas Tree'? Is it a term for a train thats stuck in depot for years

A 'Christmas Tree' gets robbed of parts to keep the rest of the fleet going. Or, to use the festive description, it gives presents to the rest of the fleet - that's where the name comes from.

The aviation world also uses the term “hangar queens” for planes being robbed.

The second query has been answered adequately above, apologies for not clarifying. 333009 was revived around 18 months ago (don't recall exactly when, but it was discussed in the Northern Unit Refurbishments thread at the time). It just had all the missing parts put back in and was sent out in the same condition as the rest of the fleet, rather than being used as "patient zero" for the refurbishment.

Thanks, yeah since 333009 came back into operation during the new franchise then i'm surprised, but then again i'm also not really surprised since back then I don't think Northern had any idea what seat covers they would do in the interiors so probably if 333009 came back in the new livery, I doubt it would have had an interior refresh

A train with an interior out of use for a while is probably the train with the least worn interior. I wouldn’t be surprised if this unit was the last to be refurbished on that basis.

I wouldn't even be surprised at all either, I also wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't even go for a refurbishment at all (that may be unlikely but whatever)

I suggested as much in the Northern refurb thread at the time it was brought back into use, though more based on it presumably having longer before it was due a major exam.

Bodywork (C6) overhauls tend to be time based, though i.e. the clock is ticking to next overhaul regardless of whether the vehicle is used. C4 overhauls (which include bogie changes) are normally mileage based. Makes sense when you think about it.
