So apart from the sets going to Scotrail, what's the likelihood of these being re-used?

43070+43087 moved some Mk3's from Laira to Long Marston today 24/3 and then ran back as 0Z43 to Laira to take another rake of Mk3's soon. Both de-named and de-vinyled.
The erstwhile Cotswold pairing performing a stock move to Long Marston... just like the last time HSTs were withdrawn en masse!

See Peter Tandy's site: http://petertandy.co.uk/long marston/CR_HST_-arrive_hbrne_17306.jpg 13 years ago

For description search 43087 on http://petertandy.co.uk/longmarston page.html

What's it called? It's called Cumbernauld
A shot in the dark, but does anybody know what 43079 was working today (Friday)?

I maybe have a remote possibility of getting it tomorrow evening depending on when it is due at Paddington or Reading as someone in London is looking after the dog while I am at a meeting (my partner has taken ill with a breakdown and is in the hospital, but insisted I still go to the meeting in London). Furthermore I was meant to have set off Wednesday night to do some East Midlands on Thursday, and some bits in London today including hunting for my final GWR powercar.

It should still be with 078 but can't be certain on that.

Thank you very much for that snippet of info. I will also try the TOPS request thread tomorrow to find what it is allocated to.
Don't want to be bearer of bad news but after many weeks partnered with 078 , 091 has replaced 079 and 079 was not in service today. At the moment coming out of service can often be lengthy even forever!!!!

Think you're right on that one; had my last 079 trip on Tuesday, yesterday looked to have been its last day in service.

43079 due to go off-lease imminently, so may well not work again for GWR.

Still struggling to believe people are flapping to get them for the first time. Unless you’ve started bashing in the last 3 years or so, there’s not really an excuse...

Well there were 120 odd GWR powercars, so quite a task to get them all!

I don't think I've ever been on a single HST.

One question that has puzzled me as well as @fishquinn is if Hull trains are going to be having a HST set for the next few months where are they going to get the power cars from if they are stored?

Probably from the 2+4 slam door pool?

I think XC will have some power cars but probably some LNER as they have new engines and are more similar to the current XC power cars.
I have heard rumours that XC are considering a 6th set with a few extra power cars, but as mentioned above, they are likely to come from the LNER pool rather than the GWR pool.

There's all sorts of rumours flying around at XC about getting more HSTs, but it's all in the hands of the DFT and their handling of rail matters is frankly a joke, so I wouldnt hold your breath!

So the next off lease power cars should be 43165/190 and followed by 43079/159.
