Mod Note: Posts #1 - #32 originally in this thread.

And "2 37s" will be introduced with training in or by May, can't remember which routes the TfW dispatcher told me. maybe to the valleys because that has been suggested on here.

So TfW are getting 37s and Mk2s? Well, well, well...;)

Fair comment - so there is no substance to the report that 769's have been "bashing platforms" and will have their use restricted to certain routes excluding Rhymney.
he said that the 37s were definitely coming, but maybe about as definite as the platform bashing... :D

The C679s are earmarked for the Rhymney line.

I can just see the reaction is a 50 year old engine is brought in to the valley lines just as the 30 year old pacers are set to leave!

Class 37's will be re-introduced on 0745 Rhymney - Cardiff Central and 1702 Cardiff Central - Rhymney from May 20th and then on 0724 Rhymney - Cardiff Central and 1732 Cardiff Central - Rhymney later towards summer. Locos provided by Colas rail (37418 + 37421)

HST rumours for North Wales - Cardiff services are still a possibility later in the summer

sorry, didn't see your post earlier! 37-418 is interesting to me because that loco came to Aberystwyth as part of an engineering train even though it's a non-ERTMS fitted loco... what will the carriages be, Mark 2s...? and HSTs ey...? surely mini sets... i take it this is all to add temporary capacity and also allow units to be PRM-TSI modified quicker...?

Will they only operate 2 services a day?

Seems like a lot of cost for such little use

That's how it worked for quite a few years in up until 2005. Just working in the Peaks. Would have to train many more crews and pay more higher track access charges if worked all day.

Prior to December 2005 they ran all day on Saturdays. That would be easy to do again if they are push pull sets. They could even run through to Penarth.

It's a 10 hour round trip. The most each set could possibly do is three runs, i.e. start at Holyhead and finish at Cardiff or vice versa.
10 hours Cardiff-rhymney round trip? Sorry that’s what I was referring to was the Cardiff - rhymney service

Think you’re getting mixed up with the new 37’s that have a timetable out apparently, and the rumour that GWR HSTs are coming. I’ve only heard mention of holyhead to Manchester for them. But like I said, just rumours at the moment.

In addition
In addition for all of about 3 weeks in December, as any HST sets and 37 + Mk2 sets will need to be taken out of service at the end of this year, unless TfW get derogations to carry on running them if there are still DMUs to be PRM modified and all of the 9 x 769s are still not in service come next January, with the argument that they are essential to prevent severe overcrowding maybe.

For what it's worth, I do find the info quite believable. There are certain details in there that fit in with restrictions I would expect the HST fleet to need to follow (like not stabling overnight in the South). But I think that before people get too excited and treat this info as gospel questions should be asked to ascertain how reliable it actually is. I get that sources sometimes have to remain secret - but given this profile only started posting a few days ago, is posting details as definite facts without listing sources, and has the type of username that to put it bluntly screams "enthusiast" rather than "senior TfW employee", I think it's only fair to ask questions.
Nothing in RTT re: light engine moves or trial loaded runs Rhymney Cardiff using 37;s at the dates and times stated, though maybe these have not entered the system yet.

It's over a month until the new Timetable and things may not be 100% confirmed yet so don't get worried at this stage.

I thought the change in disabled access laws prevented Mark 2s from being used on passenger services (because of the lack of disabled toilet facilities) from the 19th May?
No, it's from 1st January 2020.

I'm not that familiar with RTT - it says pathed as a 14x DMU, I assume your post is saying it's a 769? Where is that info from?

Thanks!

Don't take any notice of what you see on RTT, that is only the Timings used (Timing Load). My post has said nothing about a 769, it is a Class 37/4 and 4 Mark 2 coaches

Also not familiar with RTT,how do you work out it’s a 37/4?

You don't work it out from RTT. Sources of information tell you that. Any timings can be used so long as the Traction can maintain these times
Plus on this occasion there is a bit of a clue with the headcode.
