Stagecoach services 120 & 130 in the Rhondda Valley, are being downgraded next month. The Gold buses are going elsewhere. According to drivers, they’ve been a complete disaster. Not sure of the actual date they’re going.

Disaster? In what way?

I travelled on them last summer (albeit only from Pontypridd to Caerphilly) and thought they were nice machines. Mind you, thought they were odd routes to convert!

I am surprised to hear this as well. I have travelled on them a few times and found them fine with no problems. Ah well: back to the s****y older Enviro200s I guess and that will not make any future journey on these routes quite so enjoyable. Wonder where these MMCs will end up?

Maybe they were too long? They are a lot longer than buses they replaced, which were (I think) longer than the ones before that. I'm not too sure about the route, but some of it looks quite tight on Streetview. Maybe someone more local could confirm.
They could be transferred onto other routes around South Wales which can easily use the bigger buses (122?)

I've been told the 120/130 is not making enough money as a return on investment in the MMC's originally. They are transferring elsewhere locally in exchange for other vehicles.

The 120/130 buses are going to Blackwood. The upgrade of the 120/130 failed to increase passenger numbers.

Part of the problem appears to be the stop/start. Every time the bus stops and the handbrake is applied, the engine cuts out. More so if the doors are opened, the bus will not restart until the doors are tightly closed. The foot brake also has to be pressed before the brakes release, prior to the bus moving off. Drivers hate it.

To be honest, I thought that the 122 would be a more appropriate service to Gold but then again, they had the figures/mngt info.
Particularly with the frequency increase, it would have been good. Keeping all the Gold Enviro 200 MMCs at Porth would also allow for greater flexibility in the fleet.

Any idea what routes these will run? 26 and 151 spring to mind, and the PVR fits - the question is can the actual buses fit, as Newport looks pretty tight (on Streetview).

Quick question for mods - should this be merged with the thread for Stagecoach West/Devon/South Wale?

Indeed, they will be used on the 26 and the 151 as of the 12th May, not including Sundays.

I've always thought 151 and 26 should have gone Gold before the 120 and 130 did anyway. Both seem to be far more popular routes. Will it be a straight swap with the E200's currently on those routes?

My understanding is that the 151 E200's and the E300's off the 26 will go to Porth. Seems the 11 are going down to Caerphilly aswell.
