I wanted to know if the assessments are the same as the trainee train driver roles?

Also if it's same and someone fails the assessment, Does it count towards the 1 life lost?

I applied for this position aswell as the GA trainee depot driver.

I'm waiting for a reply from both positions.

I’m not entirely sure if they are the same tests as the PSA role isn’t techinically the same as the ‘train driver’ role. There are some posts somewhere deep in this forum that say the tests involve listening to radio communications, and some different testing. They may have changed it however, as they are being conducted through Keolis.

The tests are unique to DLR and won't in any way affect 'lives' on national register utilised by other TOCs.

Getting a job with KAD to work on DLR requires a strong initial application with your CV and covering letter tailored to the particularly varied role of a PSA. (Hint: read the job description and match up with examples of your previous experience)

If successful at that stage you'll be invited to complete a couple of online questionnaires. It's not likely you'll be able to complete all questions in the allotted time, this is by design. Typically, your answers will demonstrate whether you're the kind of person able to prioritise key elements of the role such as safety and customer service in an appropriate way whilst under pressure.

If successful at that stage, you'll be invited to a personal interview. Most people find it fairly searching, it'll be for around 45mins to 1hr. Be prepared to give specific examples of times you've been faced with an emergency, how you dealt with it, what happened, what was the aftermath. Think outside the box if you need to, an example from your personal life is just as valid as a professional one. As the role is very much frontline and public facing, it will help if you can give examples of times you've demonstrated exceptional customer service, especially if in the face of adversity.

The radio test will be something like listening to an instruction communication and then repeating it back verbatim. This will test your English listening comprehension and also that you are able to communicate in a clear and formal way. More tricky than it sounds on a radio, even for native English speakers.

Once through all that, you can expect to hear whether you've been successful within a couple of weeks. Waiting for an actual training start date is another thing entirely.... KAD is currently significantly overstaffed with PSAs as they're planning ahead for losing numbers to Elizabeth line and forthcoming retirements. As with most railway jobs, patience is key. You will of course be required to pass a railway standard medical and drug screen before commencing.

Thank you for the detailed explanation.
Currently I work in a prison so I'm always working under pressure and emergency situations.
I would prefer the depot train driver position out of the two.

To be honest it would have taken me upto 2 hours to get to work so I was having double thoughts anyway.

I am waiting on the MTR Crossrail VSE online assesment results and I hope this time it's a positive reply.

Got the same email. And equally had second thought on this job due to the fact it’s not a train driving job and therefore not transferable to other TOCs, which I would like for progression.

Not taking anything away from the one who progressed and really hope they get it. I think they had such a huge amount of applications that a fair percentage wasn’t even reviewed.

Southern, got my DMI next month. And SWR, still waiting for an interview date, I passed the assessments with them in April. Which luckily fast tracked my Southern application.
Just patiently waiting...

just had the situational judgement test two days ago. and go the response.

Thank you for participating in the assessments for the Passenger Service Agent position with KeolisAmey Docklands.
Regrettably, you did not meet the benchmark set in the assessments and we will not be able to progress your application.

i got to say all the questions had nothing to do with customer service, few that were if you would put safety 1st or not, most of them were how you would deal with problems at work, if one team member is criticising you, if you were denied bonus what would you do, if somebody asked you to work for free, what would you do, your manager is not doing his job, and telling him so will get you fired what would you do. if you were sick and called in to work, what would you do.

on top of that the options they give you are all terrible and confusing. and you cant just pick one, you have to rank them according to your 1st choice to your last.
the test was 25 questions long, 70 minutes to complete, that makes 2.8 minutes per questions, huge scenarios, i am very very fluent in my English and a careful reader, was able to do 23 in time, even though you cant see the timer.
despite of being 11 years in customers service last 6 years as a manager, dealt with the most horrible possible scenarios with customers or with staff and safety critical situations with the most calm and coolest mindset, i gave the answers to the best of my knowledge and on the balance of work life.
i failed.!!

if anyone has succeeded in this test, please do elaborate what can be done differently.
would be highly appreciated.

I took the test last week and passed, I looked at each question and the four answers and I believe, I may be wrong that all the answers are bad, they are designed to show the worst/ most dishonest course of action through to the least dishonest/ worst situation.

I then answered based on that criteria. I think the various TOC' s are after people that adhere to rules and place customer service and honesty above all else.

I've passed this twice now, so, for me it works.

Hope that helps,

Sorry to hear you didn't make it.
