I’m hearing more talk about minimum relief premium increasing to 10% from 4%, is it just ops floor talk or is there real discussion on the matter ?

It does seem a rough deal 4% to not know what your working from one week to the next, working multiple panels in our location, no booked Sunday turns etc.
Are there just 2 relief rates, one for covering one location and the other for covering different locations?

There’s a few different rates based on distance covered.

4% (in house such as an asc), 12%, 18%, 24% and 32%.

The higher the percentage, the further the distance covered.

As said previously i suppose 4% isn't a lot really for not knowing your shifts in advance, understand you only work at the 1 location but i would presume the not knowing your shifts is more worthy of a premium that not knowing your location (of course those who are effected by both should get more)

I’d say as long as you apply yourself to the online assessments and interview you stand as good a chance as anyone else (in your situation).

Does the advert state experience in the field is required, if not then just revise and build up your responses at interview around the NTS skill sets they require.

Best of luck !

Have a really good read of the JD, think about your experience and then try and mould your experience to what they want, also try and at least get the majority of the NTS’s into your examples.

I know a couple of folk who’ve kept their 32% premium on a personal basis after the jobs were reduced as a result of smaller areas of cover.

Omg only went and passed the tests! Now to wait for further updates. Can anyone please confirm the next stage. Is there still an assessment day or does it go through to interview?

Good news! My understanding is the next step is interview, they pick the top five or so scores in the online tests.

Depends on the LOM/Location, some send you for paper based assessments and some call you direct for interview.

Grade 7 as well !!! Almost worth applying for lol

... if it wasn’t an 8hr roster.

Talking of which, my LOM reckons the ORR - whenever it finally reports back - will ban 12hr rosters outright as they allow insufficient leeway for the ‘max 14hr working day’ rule.

Here’s hoping he’s wrong.

Interview this coming Thursday.
Butterflies already!
I've read this whole thread, thank you everyone!
Researched NR, the railway upgrade plan, digital railway, the local line, TOC's and FOC's, requested a box visit, safety vision, lifesaving rules.
Still need to get some examples together for the NTS.
Any more tips welcome!

Myself and a fair few others wont be able to work an 8 hr roster at our current location due to tge fatigue of travelling everyday.

Hopefully this wont come through forcing us to move back to traditional 8 hr rosters on a 35 hr week. If they will persist maybe a compromise on moving to a 32 hr week and a 4 on 4 off 8hr

Honestly I think there’s a 0% chance that 12 hour rosters would get banned.

Safety question is probably the most important and they use NTS questions to see how you act in them situations make sure you talk about what you did.

Having worked an 8hr roster with an hour’s drive each way and a 12hr roster with less than 10 mins drive each way, I know which one has had me falling asleep at the wheel on the way home more than once... (hint - it wasn’t the 12 hour one)

There’ll be a riot if they attempt to take away 12hr rosters.

Thank you.
What are they looking for in the safety question, would it be my interpretation of it and to labour how safety conscious I am?

Did they contact you by phone or email?

It was by email around a month after the application closing date. I waited patiently as recommended with everything crossed!

You'll be asked something like:
"What can you tell me about Network Rail's safety vision?" or "Why do you think safety is important in the rail industry?"

Lots of confusion here! What is the current process? Links on NR own site is still mentioning assessment centre and web-based interviews, but others are saying straight to face-to-face interview. Which is true?

Plus, where can I get a copy of the core competencies?

OK thanks
Hopefully I've spent enough time revising the vision, the lifesaving rules, and also safety being of the utmost importance and also a key driver of good business performance and customer satisfaction.
A bit buzz wordy and I'll try my best to elaborate on my answer in the interview.
