For reference, this refers to yesterday and not today 15/05.

Yesterday was speedo issues on the power car.
Wasn't there a spare power car that could deputise? I saw loads at Laira as we passed by earlier.

That's a good plan, but note in case of interest - you can get the 18.15 HST to Cheltenham, thence to Brum and the last Leicester connection off Brum on Sat eve if of any interest.

Obv you cann't then see the 18.30 leave paddington, so you may want to travel on one of the diagrams earleir int he day (eg an out and back to Bristol?)

So you could to Leicester to St Pancras (by HST obv) - then Paddington to Bristol Rtn on an HST - arrive into Paddington in time to see all the departures from 18.00 to 18.30 off platforms 1 to 4, then head back to Leicester on an HST again.
I just booked the 1300 to Bristol, getting in at 1439. Then that leaves again at 1530 getting in at 1709 I believe. That then will give me plenty of time to get pictures

GWR have just tweeted that Saturdays 18.30 Paddington to Taunton is fully booked and boarding will be denied unless you have a seat reservation. But seats still available for June 1 flying banana railtour.

It's still sitting at Reading after the planned return departure but now with a problematic front loco.

Gosh - heavy demand for that then, I thought demand would spread across the final 4 departures depending on where people need to get to. Still I guess people can book and reserve on one of the other three, as I've done.

Problem with front cab so changed direction at Tilehurst and looking to drive from other cab.
So that means it is likely to get taken out of service once it gets to Plymouth? That leaves 1 full HST operating today then. Are there no spares?

Just seen an HST heading towards Taunton between Westbury and Taunton. I take it this is the set with a fault in the rear cab?

Just seen some interesting info on WNXX regarding how the last HST(s) on Sat will be policed:

"The plan is that there will be a volunteer GWR staff member manning every door. You will not be allowed on the train without
showing your reservation. Those staff members will then police the vestibules to ensure droplights remain closed whilst the train is in motion."

I was just wondering how many would be tempted to experience that last blast of air at 100+ mph!
But happy to be on the last train anyway, even as a seated crank. :)

Thanks to all who are posting info here - VERY much appreciated, and an important part of this tribute to the HSTs.

Cue the world's biggest farce when the last HST runs later and later due to all those pre-boarding checks so regular passengers heading for a night out get caught up with it. The relief would have disappeared into the sunset with the next train caught up.

Shame GWR can't show similar levels of crowd control when the rugby is on in Cardiff or any other times of the year when they are happy for trains to depart crush loaded...

A bit of good news. 43185, OC55 and 43009 are en-route to Paddington with a 5C84 10:50 St Philips Marsh to London Paddington ECS move. Should then slot into IW02 diagram and become the 1C84 14:03 Paddington to Penzance service. Set 802010 which is covering the first part of the diagram will go ECS to North Pole. OC55 is showing as formed of 41089, 40904, 42169, 42504, 42221, 42062, 42068 and 44022. 43185 should be back at the London end with the set in correct formation.

Accoring to the GWRHELP twitter account the 14:03 Paddington to Penzance will be a HST.

Whatever the problem with 43071 earlier today must be fixed now, it is now passing Cullompton with 43196 at the rear on 1A87 12.55 Plymouth - Paddington, only 3 minutes late after a quick turnaround at Plymouth.

GSM-R issue at Reading unable to find network. Possibly an area of poor reception as the radio was confirmed as working again after the train had moved a short distance. The set was in the process of being turned so this was still carried out.

The Castle sets are going to be around for some time. And although limited to 100mph are quite nippy. 0 to 100mph in 2.5 mins!!!!

Aye but you can't lean out t'window in the Castle sets! However XC "save the day" for now along the Devon coast. Weird they don't get half the old GWR sets but that's probably best left for another thread :D

Re Friday:
Does anyone have the departure times and destinations for any HSTs from Paddington to anywhere for tomorrow (Friday 17th)? Or is Saturday the only remaining day of operation?

Apologies if the information is somewhere in this thread already but there are nearly 1500 posts!

Hiya, I've found this halfway down page 45 of this thread - you may be able to easily convert the headcodes into timings:

SX diagrams for the final week (13/05 - 17/05):

1. MO 1A70 MSX 1A71 > 1C74 > 1A87 > 1C90

2. FSX 1A81 > 1C84. FO 1A81 > 1B42 > 1L82 > 1C28

3. 1A79 > 1C82 > 1A96 > 1C98

I saw 1C82 going between Maidenhead and Twyford earlier with 43189 leading. Did anyone see which was on the rear?
