I’m currently sat on the 2*153+170/5 combo — they don’t appear to have opened the corridor between the units, which could end up causing crowding issues if people board and assume they can walk through to the second carriage.
Tbe gangway between the 2 153 cars on the Snow Hill line was definitely open when I worked em yesterday.

The services during the day seemed to get delayed on the Kenilworth section, with a handful being 10-15 minutes late arriving.

Doesn't help when you have a couple of XC services running late, must be fun and games on the single line section for the controllers now passenger services are doubled from what they were before April last year as well as any freight services running that way

It'll be alright from 2026 (on the same weekend as HS2 opens) as the line will have been double tracked and the single line sections will no longer cause pathing issues. Only 7 years of heavily delayed trains to endure......

The dogbox used to get delayed fairly regularly, doesn't help that the freight is still routed that way.

Is there a loop somewhere along there for trains to pass?

The heritage combo was running slightly late to Moor St yesterday evening (no big deal but Chiltern was stuck behind it). The issue was that despite revving the balls out of them, the quite full 153s/170 couldn't make any time back up. 172s would have no problem in comparison. The loading times having also increased considerably too so Chiltern might be having words soon.

I thought it interesting to note that 172/0s and 172/2s are seemingly being used indiscriminately on 172 diagrams out of New Street, as I clocked 172220 leaving New Street on the 16:20 to Great Malvern yesterday. The corridor fitted 172 units are a fairly rare sight at New Street, so it caught my attention.

considered the amount of delays chiltern cause to WMT services i doubt they will have much if any room to complain. Not sure what time you got on it but it was on time until it was delayed due to a late running XC at Tyseley. Difficult to get time back after that as with the amount of trains (Chiltern/XC & even freight) WMT always come last.

I suspect things are in a state of flux given there's been a small fleet of 17x's parked at Tyseley every day this week. It's normally about empty during rush hour except for the odd XC unit.

Always had booked work on Sat & Sun & should have booked work Mon to Fri at present but diagram currently being covered by a 3 car 170 due to loading issues. The 16:20 off New St is actually booked a 172/0

Yeah, I was aware it was booked a 172/0, hence my interest in it appearing as a 172/2 yesterday. I'm aware that the existing 172 fleet has had booked work out of New Street for some years, but their diagrams hardly see them there frequently.
