Has a train stopping at, or even better, terminating at Tenby ever departed from platform 10b at Birmingham New Street? Or arrived there?

What larks that would be...

Any other similar examples?

I think it is likely that there will have been a train from New St 10b to Tenby. I’m sure there used to be a summer Saturday Cross Country service from York or Leeds (possibly Newcastle) to Tenby back in the 80s; I think I saw it once. It would have gone through New St and could conceivably been routed via 10b. Of course it would have occupied most of the platform, so would most likely have been announced as platform 10 rather than 10b. Also it’s final destination may have been Pembroke Dock (although I think Tenby more likely for the run round).

Do the platforms at Piccadilly have an a and b end? There’s a couple of services to Tenby (Pembroke Dock) that start there, and perhaps they could one day be accidentally replatformed to 10b?

Sadly, platforms in the main shed at Piccadilly aren't sub-lettered - trains are just advertised as front/rear train.

Platform 13/14 are signed as 13b/14b at their respective arrival ends, should a train stop short or be turning back directly.

What's it called? It's called Cumbernauld
Will the train to Stratford-on-Avon be from platform 2b, or not 2b?

Now you have mentioned that, this does seem plausible as I can remember during the summer timetable, there were some Birmingham New Street - Stratford-upon-Avon via Solihull trains that ran on Mondays to Fridays. This was around 1989-90 when the Class 115/116s were still in service and before the hybrid Class 150 Sprinters came along around 1990-91.

Also, when the section of the ex Birmingham & Shrewsbury Railway (Great Western Railway) reopened between The Hawthorns and Snow Hill in 1995, I remember at first the Sunday services from Stourbridge direction ran via New Street instead of Snow Hill and Moor Street for a short while.

The best I can come up with is Sheffield platform 2C to Dore & Totley. It doesn’t quite work but close enough for a Sunday afternoon.

I must say that shed 10B was the first thing that came to my mind. When I next go to Didcot (or anywhere else on the GW main line for that matter) I'll be reading the timetable for Reading

Not exactly what you're asking for, but I've once done Cambridge to Tenby via King's Cross and Paddington. The train from Cambridge came in to platform 10B at King's Cross. It made us giggle at the time...

It was an extension of the 08.29 Leeds to Cardiff. It only went as far as Tenby so far as I recall. Same in the other direction. I think it also used to split at Sheffield, with portions to / from Hull, at one time.

Whenever I hear announcements of trains departing from platform 4a I think, how nice to name the platform after a composer. Unfortunately I can't think of any others...

If you were in possession of a free ticket from Platform 3B would it be a freebie from 3B?

I've got a little Liszt.... but it mainly contains names of "little" Welsh stations.
Mods, think my post needs Chopin :)

I have a Chopin Liszt every time I go to Asda...

Trains go from "platform null" at Doncaster to Hull.

Funny - posted this yesterday. Had a trip to Hazel Grove and back this morning. Unusually called at 14b in not one, but both directions!

I remember listening to the announcer in about 1987 at new street. Actual bloke, not computer, and he announced a trains to tenby. It would have been between 1700 and 1800. It may have gone from 10b, or I might have imagined it. He read out a shedload of stops. I suspect it was a classic DMU via Worcester SH and Lydney.

Theer was also a Pwllheli train at about the same time. Poor announcer bloke coping with Caersws, Machynlleth, Aberdyfi, Tywyn, Porthmadog and Llwyngwril was amusing. He didnt do badly - wonder if he had a phonetic cheat sheet
