Could be wrong, but there might be a run of one of these from Liverpool Tomorrow. Appears to be something coming off Crewe to Lime St, then having a run to and back to Carlisle. Has a Class 350 path designated. (All on realtimetrains)

Any news yet on where these may be allowed to use their 125mph capability?

Any news yet on where these may be allowed to use their 125mph capability?

There was brief talk of allowing 115 ages ago, nothing more was heard of that so I guess 110 will be the maximum they will see in service.

They were allowed to use some EPS speeds on the WCML for 125mph testing.

Are they actually training any drivers yet or are they still playing with them.

I little bit of testing left that involves testing of Pantograph forces in multiple which should hopefully take place in the next week. There should be another arrival in the next fortnight (005 I think) which along with 006 and 007 has been based in Zaragoza and been putting some miles in on the Spanish network and they are hopeful it can pretty much go straight into fault free running and maybe handed over late July

Why cant they do 125 mph? Is it because they don't tilt?

Some miles on the Spanish network ? Where exactly, considering the different gauge there ?

For non-tilting trains there is effectively a 110mph ceiling (the pre-tilt maximum) on the WCML with lower limits in many places. The 397s could do 125 where permissible on the ECML for instance.

The main reason they don't allow non-tilting trains the higher speeds is passenger comfort rather than safety as such I believe.

Only the 221s and 390s are allowed to 125 on the WCML due to the tilt, although IIRC some members were saying it's more to do with comfort of passengers as opposed to the actual ability to do 125 without tilt.

There was mention up thread of allowing them to use some of the higher-performance speeds but no one has yet said where that will be the case, what limits those will be or whether any will permit 125mph.

I hope they will!

IIRC there has been suggestions that parts of the WCML are suitable for 125mph without tilt and this has been speculated on concerning the 91/Mk4 sets from Blackpool to London. I've also come across an assertion that the ECML tolerates bigger lateral forces than those specified on the WCML. Someone on here has said the real issue is making speed limits too complex with another category of rolling stock - 125 without tilt. The formula is deeply complex but I think cant deficiency is related to the square of the speed and so 110 to 125 would produce a 30% rise in lateral forces, so it seems likely that a good deal of the WCML would be suitable for 125mph without tilt with only modest rises in lateral forces experienced by travellers.

OTOH all my technical knowledge is from the Rev. Awdry.

ISTR that cant deficiency and the forces on passengers are the main reason 125 is not allowed without tilt. Obviously it has to be safe to do 125 without tilt otherwise everytime a Pendolinos tilt deconfigured they'd go flying off the track.

At a guess perhaps they would simply remove the EPS speed rather than introduce a new category of differential. So a section currently posted as say "110/EPS125" would simply become "125".
