Exeter's recruitment is still on going, lots still to get through apparently and the Mangers have other work that needs sorting so can only be available at certain times, also as i've mentioned before the main lady from HR that deals with Conductor Recruitment has to be available at the same time as the Guards Managers as she also has to cover all other Depots that have recruitment going on. So please be patient as you may not get the invite for a while yet.

Also I don’t know if you remember but I had a DM conversation with you a long time ago which was very informative and helpful so your input on this thread is much appreciated.

Yes it is, On GWR they have Train Manager and Train Conductor.
Train Manager is HSS Based (High Speed Services)
Train Conductor is Unit Based (Local Services such as on Exmouth - Paignton).

In the Rule Book the Description used is always Guard for Rules purposes though not Conductor as some Train Companies use different titles for the same job.

Thanks for the reply!

Thanks for this, it’s just incredibly hard being patient when I know that many others are being progressed through and I’m not, as I’ve previously mentioned it may just be because I’m not good enough but I will keep plugging away and hope GWR eventually cave to my multiple applications!!

As far as I’m aware Exeter are still currently carrying out stage 1 only at the moment.

I very recently passed the first assessment and today have been invited to the second assessment NEXT WEEK (24/4/19)!
It’s a bit short notice. I haven’t been able to accept yet as it’s not easy to arrange time off so soon and also around a double bank holiday.
Anyone else here been invited?

I’ve been overlooked again for this one, which is a shame as I’m not working on the 24th! I shall keep plugging away.......

I couldn’t change my shifts in time to attend on the 24th. Too short notice and a double bank holiday to deal with.

Hhmm, I was supposed to go on the 10th but then got an email to say as I had passed stage 1 previously I didn't have to go, that's the last I heard :|

Hi all, just wondering if anyone has received an invite for the Stage 2 Assessment for the Bristol TM Conductor vacancy?
Stage 1 was 15 April

I daren’t try for the role because I’ve worked on railways before and I’m currently working on the SDR and I think that would put me at the back of the queue when GWR go through the applicants I’m in the same boat I would be overlooked for it so I know how you feel

Well that's the biggest load of BS I've ever heard. If you're SDR you will surely know the numerous of our Exeter-based crews who are your volunteer colleagues

I may never know whether I would’ve got the job I probably wouldn’t have got it I’ve worked at SDR but I’ve also worked at the Bodmin and Wenford Railway I put 2 applications into GWR in the past and pulled out of both of them because of my skills I’ve run a train at night taken a trainee out stopped someone getting hurt

Have today been given a conditional offer for conductor at Bristol TM after missing out on Train Manager around 8 months ago. I'm over the moon and just goes to show if at first you don't succeed...
I'm external too and have to praise the feedback I was given following the TM assessment. It focused me on what I needed to do second time around. Can't wait to get started...pending background check and medical of course
This forum has been a huge help too

Congratulations. I am on my third go at getting in, waiting to see if I will be shortlisted for stage 2 assessment for Conductor at Exeter and TM at Plymouth.

A question to those in the know, if I fail again at either one at stage 2 this can automatically dis-bar me from the other even before I get to stage 2 with it. Is that right?

Unfortunately yes. It's a 6month bar on anything in that job category. And as Conductor and TM are in Customer Service, it's actually quite a range of jobs you need to wait for.

I thought as much. I know about the 6 month rule (been there twice :|). Such a tough one, I suppose I will have to think about which role I really want and if I get offered stage 2 for the one I least want, withdraw and hope I get shortlisted for the other. Its hard work isn't it lol

Are all station based roles classed as Customer Service roles?

Go down the conductor route as it looks lime the harmonisation will go through so we will all be working all types of traction anyway

Thanks for the advice, appreciated. Now then what if I get shortlisted for stage 2 TM post, withdraw in favour of the conductor post but not get shortlisted to stage 2 for that.... Lol it's enough to make your head spin :p

If you get offered a stage 2 place for either role, take it. Likelihood is if you can pass it for one you can for both,

I feel like I’m in a very similar predicament to you! I have also applied for both jobs this time around and although I’ve already passed the stage 1 assessment for conductor I have today been invited to a stage 1 assessment for TM which I believe is exactly the same thing! My head is already spinning!

If you email them and let them know you have already passed stage 1 you should be then moved to stage 2 (as long as your scores are ok).

There was a section in the application that asked if I had previously taken the test so they should know that already, also if my scores aren’t ok to progress to stage 2 then I would assume I would be ruled out of the Conductor process aswell. Impossible to know what to do for the best!
