Is that Stage 1 and Stage 2 in one day?

Yes both stages in one day.

Congratulations. Which depot did you put down?

I’ve gone for Cambridge & Bishops Stortford.

Wow lol. Thanks for sharing this very helpful. I will now be practicing the group bourdon I think. The others tests look like you can’t really practice. Exciting times hope all goes well.

No probs Thought it might help others understand how the day is set out.

Good going, best of luck.

I don’t see the DFFT (Driver Fault Finding Test) on there.

I thought that was weird too. Considering someone else on here passed all the assesment with another toc and had to come in to do the DFFT only.

Yeah one on my course had to do exactly that too, so GA definitely use it.

I recently applied for Liverpool street and Ilford and like most of you i also recieved the email asking if i have reviously completed any assesments of which i havent, which leads me to believe that i have passed the SJT test.
I currently work imthe railway as a Commissining & warranty engineer but i am certain that this will not sway heavily in the selection process.
Congrats and good luck to the ones that have recieved the assessment dates through and thank you all for all the info you so openly share.

So it looks like there is nine or ten tests to do at the assessment centre, do you have to pass everyone to go to the next stage? Or is there like a percentage score you have to reach for the whole lot to pass? TIA

In the email I got Lee it states, if at any time during the day you are not demonstrating the required standards you’ll be asked to leave early. So def a pass or fail thing.

So if you make it through to MMI at the end of the day with GA I would think it’s safe to say you’ve passed all the written/ computer tests.... you can still fail the MMI, so game face will be required all day long.

It’s usually that you do the pen/paper tests 1st, if pass them you go on to computer tests, if pass them you stay for the mmi. Some give results of mmi on the day. Whereas I had to wait for couple days for my result of mmi.

Yep .. that was me. Recruitment told me i'd have to attend just for the DFFT and they'd let me know when there was a space available ?

I'm assuming I have to do the MMI again with them also regardless of passing it with another TOC? and it's only the assessment stages that can be applied across the board without the need to re-sit them if already passed ?

No, the MMI is transferable too as it’s part of the same psychometric process.

The DMI is not part of the psychometric assessments though, and is obviously done regardless.

Glad to hear ... another bit of the process that doesn't need repeating ...

Thanks for the good news !!!

No worries and good luck! I was in the same boat but at the time wasn’t aware that the length of time assessments were valid for varied. It came as a welcome surprise when I only had to sit the enhanced tests (DFFT for example) because I’d passed the rest 3.5 years previously (I assumed at the time all TOCs and FOCs had a three year limit).

What depot did you apply for? I feel like Ilford and Liverpool Street is probably at the bottom of their priority.

I originally applied for Stortford ... but they asked me again what my preferences are when i spoke to them ... I'm in Romford so Stortford, Southend, Iford and Liv St are all within the 40 mins for me ... I told them I don't mind which one..?

Ok that’s good to know, I’m quite concerned about the MMI and what they will ask lol, so if you fail say 1 or 2 of the tests can you just retake the ones that you failed? Or do you have do the whole lot again and wait six months.?

That would be 6 months wait, should you fail any of the psychometric assessments Lee.

I think if you fail you can’t apply again for 6 months Lee. I’m unsure though. I’m sure someone will either confirm this or give the correct info.

Hello everyone,

Having a read through your posts I thought I would offer you an incite into how my application process went etc:

I applied for trainee driver at Cambridge in April 2018 and also received the same email asking if I had completed the psychometric tests which I hadn’t. I heard nothing further until the until October, inviting me to an assessment day in November. This was held at Liverpool St and consisted only of the pen and paper tests. I went to Stratford 2 weeks later to complete the computer tests and the MMI. As the computers weren’t working I then had to go to Watford a week later to do these. I then waited until the January to do my DMI at Bishop Stortford. I had my medical about April time and am due to start in August. So my whole process will have taken 16 months! There are others that I did the first assessment day with in November that have still not received a date for the second assessment day, just to give you an idea as to how long this process can really take.

Good insight. Thanks for that. I’m off to put the kettle on then. Anyone else want a cup?

Wow! 16 months from application to job start is excessively long in my opinion. I've heard others talk about the time-frame in the rail industry, but it still takes some getting use to. I applied 7 weeks ago and I'm already suffering from fatigue, waiting for another email.

It is extremely slow! I thought this may help people with the realisation as to how long this could take and that you have to be patient, as extremely frustrating as it is. I thought they would probably contact the people that had done the psychometric tests and hear nothing further so it was a pleasant surprise 6 months later when I got an invite to assessment day.
