Just been emailed with:

Before we proceed any further with your application I would appreciate it if you could confirm the following information for me please:

  1. Date of birth:

  1. Do you have a GCSE level (or equivalent) A-C grade in English, Maths & ICT? Please provide details:
(Please be aware that evidence of this will be required at the next stage)

  1. If successful to the next stage, we will be holding assessments on Wednesday 10th & Thursday 11th July in Aylesbury. Do you have a preference on date?

I look forward to hearing from you.

I have as well although the ICT part may trip me up

My understanding is that all TOCs, FOCs, the RSSB etc have all agreed to trainee driver training as a level 3 apprenticeship now by the National Skills Academy for Rail (NSAR).

Not having a GCSE in English, Math or ICT isn’t a deal breaker but you will Be expected to complete the equivalent qualification “level 2” before the final part of the apprenticeship which I think will take around a year to complete give or take. Essentially the same time as previously for trainees. I found this:

Qualifications
Apprentices without Level 2 English, maths and ICT will need to achieve this level prior to taking the end-point assessment.

For those with an education, health and care plan or a legacy statement the apprenticeships English and maths minimum requirement is Entry Level 3 and British Sign Language qualification are an alternative to English qualifications for whom this is their primary language.

From https://www.instituteforapprenticeships.org/apprenticeship-standards/train-driver/

Have a full read but that’s how I’m understanding it.

Hope that helps.

Hey everyone.
Still new to the forum. I've been invited for an assessment day at 11th of July. My email says it's only gonna be Group Bourdon, TRP 1&2 and Tea-occ assessments on that day.
Has anyone else received the same email? Does that mean the second stage (containing the computerized tests) will be on a later date?
Thank you and good luck for everyone!

Hi @Greety. I did the assessments last year with another Arriva TOC. The computerized tests and the multi modal interview (MMI) are usually done by the OPC at a later date. Then driver manager interview (DMI), and then medical.

Oh, good to know! I am not worrying anymore.
Have you passed yours? Are you a driver yet? :)

I almost applied for Chiltern, since I live nearby in Bedfordshire. Passed my psychometrics last year with a TOC but was alas unsuccessful in the final interview (successful psychometric test results stay on OPC's records for several years). Got an offer from West Midlands Trains recently, uniform sorted, start date imminent! Any questions, direct message me. Happy to help.

Thank you.

Thank you.
The test gives you a fictitious cab dashboard with gauges and dials. You must apply the rules given to check each example in the right order. There's 40 odd examples to work through in about half an hour.
