Cheshire day ranger valid on this route?

There's no reason for it not to be. The line isn't shown on the current Cheshire Day Ranger map, but it doesn't have to be, the map shows the limits of validity. The map for the Lancashire Day Ranger still doesn't show the curve at Parkside, even though it's carried a passenger service for years, and the Todmorden chord isn't shown either.

A group of us used them to the curve the other week and not an eye was batted by the conductor. It's clearly an oversight in terms of updating the map to account for the new route (and I doubt it'll be fixed any time soon!).

Cheshire Day Ranger seems to be fine, but probably not the North West Rover.
That doesn't include routes via Crewe, and so excludes Warrington-Crewe and Liverpool South Parkway-Crewe.
They have updated the text for these Rangers/Rovers to be valid from 0900 rather than 0845, but haven't bothered to update the maps.

I'm also sure that in the fairly recent past North Wales/Chester-Euston was valid via Warrington (I've done it in the past to get a non-stop though Crewe).
I therefore thought that the same journey would be valid via Runcorn on the new service, but it isn't, and neither is the Warrington option now.

One of the 2 circuits today between Chester and Liverpool made up to 4 Cars. TFW Journey Check says overcrowding due to a Football match. I thought the match was in Madrid not Liverpool.

Yeah, a pair of 175's. Liverpool is absolutely rammed. People are coming from all over just to watch the game in Liverpool. Personally I am watching at home with the family.

That - frankly - is impressive by TfW.

Well done them.

Indeed, looks like they are looking after England and it’s borders! Disproves all those that said tfw would prioritise Inside wales and not look after the English side!

and the 175s don't even say "and Borders" on them. Though they are based in Chester :p

Used Halton Curve service again late afternoon today 16.44 and return from Line Street at 21.40 both services had decent loads on them noticed passengers with luggage get off at South Parkway on way in. On return people joined the train at both South Parkway and Runcorn. Can also confirm the correct day return fare is now available at the machine at Frodsham for this route.

I bought one of these tickets today and used this service. The Rover Ticket Guide which comes with "Today's Railways UK" says "Crewe/Chester - Runcorn - Liverpool". The gate man at South Parkway said he'd never seen a Cheshire Day Ranger and asked where I was going with it. I said it was valid as far as Moorfields and had the paperwork which I always take with me in case I'm challenged. Quite a significant movement of passengers from Frodsham to Liverpool, a journey previously very awkward by train. I had a 150 as expected and the TfW examples are a lot better inside than Northern's, with all 2+2 seats and even some tables.

The service so far is good, staff pleasant on board, also ive found timekeeping good, and better than LNW from Acton Bridge to Lime street, not to mention half the price for a day return.

I've noticed that after an initial flurry of newly repainted 158's and a few 175's the service has now settled to be almost exclusively 150 operated. Admittedly they are nicer than Northerns 150's.

They do speed along quite nicely from South Parkway to Runcorn.

Good to see that Merseyrail had ticked acceptance in place today for Chester - Liverpool with TFW as Hooton is flooded.

I travelled on the route Monday night, and it was announced Merseyrail tickets available as far as Liverpool South Parkway, which is a change, it was not available at all prior.

...

That's an interesting point. As @Bovverboy points out (post #1111), the map(s) show the limits of validity. Geographically, Runcorn (and therefore the entire Halton Curve route between Frodsham and Liverpool South Parkway) is wholly inside these limits.

Additionally, the appropriate page of the GB Rail Rover Guide: http://www.railrover.org/pages/north-west-rover.html includes Runcorn on the list of valid stations.

If you mean between Lime Street and South Parkway, then Merseytravel tickets and passes have always been valid on this section. It had been reported that some TfW guards were wrongly not accepting them.

As an aside, there is a poster up at the foot of the stairs to the "main line" platforms 1-4 at South Parkway, warning passengers travelling to Chester to double check they have a valid ticket. Hopefully not too many people have been caught out.

Yes from Lime Street. They were not accepting saveaways etc, but are now. Glad its ironed out.

It's a little worrying that the section of line from Liverpool South Parkway to Runcorn, let alone Helsby, isn't shown on the map, but I think the fact that Runcorn is listed as a valid station, together with Liverpool South Parkway, Helsby, etc, effectively settles any argument. If the North West Rover is valid at two consecutive stations it must be valid on the section of line connecting them, so it should be valid on the Halton Curve service and also on Virgin and London Midland from Runcorn to Liverpool.

I phoned National Rail Enquiries, who didn't know and then redirected me to TfW Rail who then spoke to head office who then confirmed that Cheshire Day Ranger is accepted on their Halton Curve services. I would've liked it in writing, but I can refer to that conversation I had with them if anyone kicks off about my ticket.

On my two trips, including the first Monday of the new service, they have clearly announced that Merseytravel tickets & passes were only valid between Lime Street & South Parkway.

Good , maybe they should make that clear on the screens also. It makes it look as they aren't valid throughout. Which isn't true...

I listen to Talk sport quite a lot during the day. Merseyrail are advertising frequently throughout the day their 15 minute service and they are the fastest way to get to Liverpool. They clearly are slightly worried. It will be interesting how this works out, especially when the TfW services begin at Llandudno.

Used my Trio ticket between Lime Street and South Parkway since the first Sunday of operation, multiple times on some days, and never had a problem.

It's one thing them not accepting MerseyRAIL daysavers, which would be perfectly fine anyway since they are only valid on the Wirral and Northern Lines, but bearing in mind the Liverpool city region authorities have paid for the curve and are picking up most of the bill for the service subsidies it really is dumb that this isn't wholly integrated into the fare zones for the MerseyTRAVEL passes, along with ordinary via Birkenhead tickets and via Runcorn tickets being made interoperable.

Surely both Merseyrail and TfW would benefit from passengers feeling that travel is easy and convenient, and therefore using each service more?

I visited a city centre Merseyrail station recently and asked for a return to Frodsham via Runcorn... it took rather a long time and a fair amount of discussion for me to be given the right ticket. And I had to factor in a walk to Lime Street station to catch the train, totally defeating the point of the faster journey.
