Haha not quite. The medical was pretty straightforward actually. The usual weight, height, BMI, ECG, eye tests, hearing test, urine test. Questions about any previous health conditions. That's about it!

Well I have sure piled on a few pounds over the last 6 months or so. Hopefully we don't have to be of peak physical fitness, otherwise I'm doomed lol

As long as your heart, blood pressure is ok and your generally well you should be fine. I carry some timber and my bmi was 34.7. They accepted me, got my uniform and back ground check meeting tomorrow.

I was the same. Although for GWR not for WMT, they will probably have a maximum BMI they’re looking for, so might ask you to lose some weight.

Wmt max bmi was 33. The assess each applicant. I’m a fit 34.7, I can tie my own shoes...so that’s a goodbye level of fitness

I spent weeks worrying and stressing about it whilst losing a few pounds. Just relax and you’ll be fine

Bit worried about medical as I have previous health problems I'm taking medication to control. I passed a medical in March this year to work at BMW but don't know if regulations are more strict with WMT.....guess I'll find out if I get through tomorrow.

The standards for drivers are pretty generic across the board. Everything will be taken in to consideration in these things so try not to worry.

I'd think I'll be ok as the medication is stopping it from happening again so surely an advantage my way. Who knows.....need to talk ky way through tomorrow first.

Good luck tomorrow

Get that out the way and then you’ll be fine. They’ll want the details of your medication but so long as it doesn’t affect your fitness to carry out your duties you should be fine

Not officially. I was told there and then that I’d done well and I would be back for a medical, but I took it with a pinch of salt until it was confirmed in writing

Good luck

Got news from HR that I passed the medical and will be starting training on 12th August :)

I'm amazed at how efficient WMT have been. Only 3 months from application to job offer!

Congrats all. Any idea how often they are running courses? And also the average time taken from start of trainee course to qualified?

And this is the inconsistencies.. I applied 3 months ago and am still at stage one! I do wonder why some get through a hell of a lot quicker than others.

Have you already completed your assessments with another TOC?

Congratulations buddy

It’s a great feeling I’ll be even more happy once I get the actual contract in my mitts. Always feels like there’s a chance they could pull the rug...well done matey, a lot of people would love to be you right now. Enjoy it.

The 12/8 will soon come round. I start the 15/7 at brum, closing my electrics business next week and having a few weeks off before I start. Can’t wait to be honest

Ah thatll be why, I missed the fact you had passed the assessments before hand. Ill still be waiting this time next year by the looks of it!
Andy you and me both mate. Didnt realise there would be a talent pool just for stage 1 let alone any other stages.

It’s a slow process. In all fairness they get a huge number of applicants.

I’ve got my background checks and uniform sizing today, it’s taken 14months from the day I applied.

In my opinion, it also takes a longtime so that some people drop out/de-select themselves. The numbers they receive of good applicants is high so if by taking a longtime to get through the process a few drop out I suppose it makes the vetting process a little easier.

Hi Blueben,

Congrats you must be so pleased to be at the end of the process.

When you refer to background checks what are these? Criminal record?

Best of luck!

Congratulations Ben. I understand it's a long process it's just a little frustrating when you see others getting start dates etc when some are still waiting for stage 1 assessments. I also know it can be a very long process as a mate of mine passed all his tests and was then in a talent pool for 4 years.

I think so, and references. Let you know later on once it’s sorted.

I am chuffed but still holding my breath and not popping the champagne until it’s all watertight....you never know

I understand that, this forum is really helpful, but it can also be a bit torturous. Totally get that, you’ll get there pal
