I think the limitations of Oyster, rather than any nefarious purpose, are the reason behind the lack of Oyster.
For Railcard holders, this must surely mean that, off-peak, a paper ticket from Welwyn Garden City, Hatfield, Welham Green or Brookmans Park will always be cheaper than using Contactless?

Yes indeed and i’m pretty sure paper tickets will always be cheaper for day returns at weekends due to the weekend super Off Peak tickets.

I see that the Mayor of London answered a question in December 2018 and said that it was now hoped that the extension of Oyster to Luton Airport Parkway would happen by late 2019.

Hertford North, Bayford and Cuffley have gone live today.

Excellent news, now for Welwyn GC and Luton Airport Parkway to follow...

Hopefully, it's taken long enough as it should have happened when Gatwick Airport got Oyster...

Pity they couldn't extend it to Luton though now that would have been useful!

Have you got a link for this please?

I can see this causing chaos if Oyster doesn't also cover the shuttle bus between the station and the airport terminal.

Thanks for posting the link to that document. Its a shame the link in the document to enter an online response does not work. :(
A quick bump as the consultation closes at 2345 on Wednesday.

The online consultaion survey can be found here.

Posts #154 and #157 say Hertford North was live from 2nd April officially, and earlier in reality.

An Oyster fare doesn't need to include operators who don't participate in the scheme. LNER can simply say they don't recognise Oyster on their services.

Is Oyster going to be valid on East Midlands Trains services to Luton Airport Parkway or just Thameslink?

Can you find me any evidence that Oyster is actually valid on Southeastern to Redhill when they are diverted that way or GWR between Redhill and Gatwick Airport? (I have 'used' Contactless between those stations on a GWR service but am not sure it is actually valid.)
You could possibly do that for PAYG (although l have seen some convincing arguments that even that is incorrect). You certainly could not for season tickets as Virgin at Euston found out the hard way...

The Great Northern website has been updated to say

Coming soon
Oyster and Contactless PAYG will be extended to Potters Bar later this summer. Further details will be provided nearer the time. Following this, Contactless only PAYG will be extended to Brookmans Park.

The TOCs and TfL need to come up with a very clear communications strategy that emphasises acceptance of 'Contactless only PAYG' is distinct from the more limited acceptance area of 'Oyster only PAYG'.

TfL might regard this as the job of the TOCs, and I fear the TOCs aren't up to the job.

Given TfL will be running the backend of the 'Contactless only PAYG' system and are also the common factor in this across TOCs, I think it'd be right for them to take the lead and insist that participating TOCs use a prominent, clear and consistent standard of communicating the distinction.

They should also be made to prominently display notices stating that for some weekday Off Peak journeys and at weekends Oyster/PAYG is more expensive.

TfL has put up maps saying exactly this for Potters Bar and Radlett for at least a week. It has more limited coverage, though.
Can you say where you've seen these maps? I'm aware of an internal version that has this detail, but I thought all public facing versions are the joint TfL/RDG London Connections map.

So it is, I'd not spotted that change. Thanks.

Has an OSI been introduced between St Paul's and City Thameslink? I'm curious about the dotted line between them...
In the key on the left of the map, it says the dotted lines show places where there is under a 10 minute walk between stations

The dotted line merely indicates that they are less than minutes walk apart.

And Manor House - Harringay Green Lanes is a similar one I've not seen before (and does it link also to Harringay like the other threesomes of walking interchanges? I know it's not useful but...)

Clearly the context in the key implies these walking lines are valid out of station interchanges (as can be seen in transmanche's description of the image used to claim it doesn't necessarily mean an interchange - and I agree the wording doesn't even though the context does), even if not explicit.

There seems to be a new announcement on SWR as Chessington-bound trains arrive at Motspur Park - something to the effect that contactless and Oyster PAYG are not valid beyond "the next station". That's not right, is it? Seems really random.
