Hello all,

I'm looking into the TEA-Occ test and had a question about the tones, what speed are they at, as I've seen some youtube videos with crazy fast beeps and others with really slow beeps.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

I'd say maybe 2 per second at most. This was the test I feared the most but in the end it was easy.

We had to have hands under the table so I counted on my fingers as a back up!

I think the first one had 10 lots of counting and never went over 12 (low tones) and the 3rd part, tones and symbols, there were 6 lots also 12 and under.

If anything, I found the glop test the worst but still pretty easy.

I found the tea occ part one the hardest. They all started to sound similar lol I really don’t know how I managed to pass but I did so you will be fine !!!

Nah, it was up to about 20 seconds each.

Funny how people perceive it differently! I would have thought there was at least an octave of difference between the 2.

I’ve bought one of the online tools, as this test really gets me
Nervous, it’s strange really as when I went for driver on the underground I didn’t do any revision apart from some scaat practises, and I got the role.

Something about counting mixed sounds I suppose gets me all riled up!!

I've tried making my own tests up with about 40 tones in 20 secs mixed up with 2 different tones, so reading this hopefully am at approx the right speed. I'm not looking forward to this one, 2 handed co ordination or the traffic scenes ATAVT. Guess just have to give it best shot on my day coming up

The key with the two hand coordination is to make use of the practice run I.e getting yourself in a comfortable position, getting used to the up and down joystick (can be a bit sensitive). If you don’t go right to the end of the practice run then you can essentially do the practice test for a while. The hardest one for me was the tea occ part 1 lol but I don’t think there’s any way of preparing for it tbh

Thanks. I've just tried with the Tea-Occ to record two sets of tones at approx 2 per second on my mobile using my daughters Peppa Pig toy phone haha....well I looked around the house and couldn't find anything else that played different tones. I've recorded lots of sets of 20 secs on my phone to test myself and had my wife write down the correct answers on some paper. She just wrote down in random orders high, low 40 times and pressed the relevant keys to that tone in that order whilst I recorded it. Seems to work....

Yeah 3rd part is just low tones. I wouldn't recommend pausing to count as you need to be circling symbols at the same time.

Oh and don't forget to breathe!

Someone suggested to only start circling when the tones stop and you have to write down your answer as there is a pause between the sets of tones. Is this good advice?

No, you have to be circling whilst counting as the sets of beeps (6 or so) are fairly continuous.

I didn't practise for the TEA-OCC but I did have distractions/conversations while practising the Group Bourdon.

I over thought it beforehand but it really was a lot easier than anticipated.
