Well, clearly the advertised timetable forms a key component of the contract!

The customer may then be forced to walk from the nearest station that does have a service, no?
That happened to me. The train I wanted to catch (the last one) was deleted, so they just made me walk lol. Not good.

Did you have an itinerary showing the train in question?
Did staff refuse to arrange for alternative transport?

If the answers are 'yes' and 'yes' respectively, I'd be booking a taxi (or other transport, if available/appropriate) and requesting payment of the costs incurred.

That's a clear breach of contract then! If it happened recently, you could write to the relevant company to inform them of this.

Ten months ago now, I did complain, and I think I got it all back. It was one hell of a battle with SWR though, in which even the MD agreed that them changing the timetable means you're entitled to nothing. Preposterous suggestion.

Again I recommend you keep all the evidence; it may prove very useful one day.

Journey completed. A bit of a pain. But no delay, in fact I arrived exactly on time at Welling, although at SWR's 'advice' aka instruction I did leave over an hour early. They said because I had an advance ticket I had to get the bus that had closest ETA to my original train. Frustrating 'tactic' but at least I got home in decent time.

Sorry to revive this thread, but I thought it prudent given the current strike.

I want to play devil's advocate just a little here. Engineering is supposed to be decided three months in advance (I know that hasn't always happened in recent years but let's assume everything goes well and it's put in the system on time). This is well-established, and I don't think engineering work has ever been planned with 12 months' notice. But it would be preposterous, I think, to assume that whenever your journey is delayed by engineering work that you are therefore entitled to a refund if you hold an annual season ticket.

Annual season ticket holders also endure two timetable changes during their ticket's validity. Again, even if there's a timetable change that's disadvantageous to their particular journey, I don't think it's reasonable that they'd be able to claim delay repay for each day of their journey until the end of their ticket's validity.

I would like you to convince me that strikes are somehow different, because I hold an annual season ticket and would quite like to be able to get a month's worth of delay repay ;)

It is difficult to compare a one-off journey purchase (with a clearer contract in place, especially if the customer selected an itinerary) with a Season ticket.
