Sorry for being lazy, but I don't want to wade through the class 195, class 397, class 196 and class 331 threads. I've looked at the last couple of pages of the linked ones, on which the information below is based. This topic is just for a summary of when the latest entry into service estimates are and which factories will do what.
Code:
 +-------------+--------------+----------------------+-------------------------------------------+-------------------+
| Fleet | For (TOC) | Construction Status | Factory | First Service |
+-------------+--------------+----------------------+-------------------------------------------+-------------------+
| Mark 5 LHCS | Cal. Sleeper | Started | Beasain (Spain) | April 2019 |
+-------------+--------------+----------------------+-------------------------------------------+-------------------+
| Class 195 | Northern | Started ??/??/201? | Irun (Spain) with bogies from Baesain | 1st July 2019 |
| | | | (some assembled at Newport) | |
+-------------+--------------+----------------------+-------------------------------------------+-------------------+
| Class 331 | Northern | Started ??/??/201? | Zaragoza (Spain) with bogies from Baesain | 1st July 2019 |
| | | | (1 (or more?) assembled at Newport) | |
+-------------+--------------+----------------------+-------------------------------------------+-------------------+
| Mark 5 LHCS | TPE | Started October 2016 | Beasain (Spain) | expected ? 2019 |
+-------------+--------------+----------------------+-------------------------------------------+-------------------+
| Class 397 | TPE | Started ??/??/201? | Beasain (Spain) | expected ? 2019 |
+-------------+--------------+----------------------+-------------------------------------------+-------------------+
| Class 196 | West Mids. | to start ??/??/202? | ????? | due 2020 |
+-------------+--------------+----------------------+-------------------------------------------+-------------------+
| Class ??? | TfW Rail | to start ??/??/202? | Newport | Dec 2021 or later |
+-------------+--------------+----------------------+-------------------------------------------+-------------------+
Can anyone help fill in the (many) blanks in the above please?

Also what work will/does the plant in Newport do? Hitachi at Newton Aycliffe is apparently an assembly plant, screwing together parts from various suppliers with bodyshells fabricated in Japan. Is CAF in Newport a similar case (with bodyshells from Spain)?

Is there any way I can add a table on this forum? Would be neater than the list I had above.

Anybody know if the Newport plant is participating in the construction of any of these new trains yet (not yet for TFW I know)?

Using the 'BB editor' option (the page of paper icon at the top right of the comment box), you can put [code] at the start, and [/code] at the end of your text. It will then format it using a fixed-width typeface — i.e. a typeface whereby the number 1 and the letter W, and any other character, all take up the same space to stay lined-up properly.

Using the above, it's possible to use dashes, pipes, and pluses to build a crude table:

Code:
+-------+-------+-------+
|Heading|Heading|Heading|
+-------+-------+-------+
|Data |Data |Data |
+-------+-------+-------+
|Data |Data |Data |
+-------+-------+-------+

Unfortunately it is very fiddly to edit, and potentially, each new line added which has a longer entry requires re-spacing all the lines above it. There is also no bold, italic, etc.

Whenever I have to build a text table, I tend to use this tool to generate the layout for me. It saves me from a lot of fiddling about with formatting. :)

For completeness CAF have also recently won the order from TfL to replace the entire Docklands Light Railway fleet, and these will be made in Spain

Thanks to rebmcr and AlexNL, I've now tidied up the original post with a table of sorts. I also took to Wikipedia to fill in some of the blanks; still need help with the rest of the missing information.

Dont forget the much delayed sleepers for serco which seem to be less than reliable.
K
For completeness I've added them to the table; however I think I will keep it to heavy rail stock (specificly LHCS and the Civity family, as it says in the title), so no trams or DLR stock though Mikey C, is correct to point out that CAF doesn't only build heavy rail stock.

I'd be interested to know this too.

Yes. One 331/1 (331111) has been completed at Llanwern, and I understand the 23 remaining 195/0s (195003-025) will be as well.

The first 195 for Northern was completed this week
Interesting; so they can do both EMUs and DMUs in Newport. How much work is actually done there though, will they fabricate bodyshells from scratch* or is it just where the various components come together?

* as an aside, what does Litchurch Lane in Derby start with?

In the case of the units for Northern, the body shells were/will be made in Spain, then everything is put together at Llanwern.

Is Llanwern "plumbed in" to the network? And as such, can complete sets be formed up and potentially dragged to the North, or will they all be roaded out?

With the 331/195 topics reporting service entry for both fleets I've updated the table accordingly. Does anyone have any information on the 196s or an expected service entry date for TPE's fleets?

Is 331111 the only 331 to be assembled at Llanwern? And will any 195/1s be assembled in Newport or is it only 003-025?

So far, 331111 is only EMU to be completed at Llanwern. I don't know if any more will be.

As far as I know, all of the 195/1s are to be completed in Spain and 195003-025 at Llanwern.

I wonder if anyone else will order the 331, as will anyone else want to order related EMU and DMU fleets?

The DMU 195 variants have a unique niche, but the EMU market is very crowded with several suppliers chasing the business, and there's plenty of spare stock for operators just needing small fleets.

I saw a 345 being built at Derby Works on the Crossrail documentary and it was a relatively full build, with the cabs being attached to the chassis, and the individual body panels being fastened in jigs (sorry if I haven't worded it in the best way!) Some of the train builders were young lads, quite eye opening really. Indeed, it was even overseen by the legendary Kane Jellyman before he moved on to CAF.

The relevant sections are from 3:25 to 12:42, and from 33:38 to 37:17

Of course the other side of the coin is we dont make many of the tech components here anymore so motors, engines, electrics air con and much more all from abroad. Sad that looking round my front room the other day the only thing I could identify as british was my ancient suite and my own amateur transport art. So sad.

It's a shame that the GEC Traction side got dragged down by the failure of Washwood Heath, as there was nothing wrong with the Onix traction motors which have operated very successfully under the 95 tube stock
