On the passenger information displays at Warrington, they mention that the new trains are running on the line on the 1st July. Let’s see if that happens

I think a good bet for a 195 on Monday will be:
06:47 Barrow-Manchester Airport
09:29 Manchester Airport-Barrow
14:46 Barrow-Manchester Airport
17:29 Manchester Airport-Windermere
Windermere Shuttles until
22:45 Windermere-Preston

Well that would certainly be okay with me as it would mean my commute to work was on the first of those journeys :)
I may even wait and get a later journey home to travel on that one too. We'll have to wait and see what happens. Honestly, I just hope it all goes smoothly.

Thats all very well. No doubt others might do the same, using the new 195s therefore making more room on usual crowded Pacers 158s etc.
Obviously loadings will average when more 195s are introduced, after the initial 'I want to use a new 195' phase and novelty has passed.
I intend to buy a Ranger/Rover ticket next week using off-peak services.

A spokesman for Northern on BBC NW news at lunchtime confirms that 9 NEW 195s will be in service from Monday July 1st ; does not say which routes.
Repoter alongside a new 195 says more in local news tonight in NW at 1830.

I captured Northern 195116 which has been named 'Proud to be Northern' as it passed through Salford Central on 1T31 Manchester Victoria to Preston to pick up the press launch of the new CAF Civity trains which enter service on 1st July 2019. These will be running Manchester Airport to Liverpool via Warrington, Manchester Airport to Barrow and Manchester Airport to Windermere.

From what we've been told it's 7 DMU and 2 EMU from next week with the EMUs on the Leeds - Donny

If not a lot else, people will welcome the air-con as next week is set to be warm and dry in the NW

Silly name for this unit. Good news that they'll soon be in service though.

Correct. This is what my colleague (jammy individual) who was in today's press trip was told. There will indeed be a package on BBC North-West Tonight on BBC One at 1830.

Surprised too see so many coming into play right away but it will be a good test for them too see how they actually do in passenger service.

I'm sure most passengers will appreciate them as they are a upgrade on current stock, hopefully I can get a ride out on them at some point in the future.

It remains to be seen whether they are an upgrade on current stock. Manchester - Barrow / Windermere services are currently 158s. I'm not at all convinced stock with doors at 1/3 and 2/3 are an upgrade.

I've just seen an acceleration graphs for these - is there a reason performance is so poor? 300 seconds to 100mph seems pretty sluggish with 530hp engines.

With 7 units rolling out into service from Monday- will we see a weekly roll out of new units into the North West?

That is 2 car heavily (over) loaded.
3 car average loading is around 260s

Now that these trains are actually about to go into service it's time to have a separate thread for diagramming. This is so that people can easily find information (and request it) regarding what services 195s are currently on without it being lost amongst a raft of posts relating to people's opinions of the new trains and the continuing discussion regarding their introduction. The new thread can be found here.

Hopefully that makes sense! We've done it a few times now and it's worked well in the past in helping to keep things relatively organised!

It still seems pretty sluggish, unless it's far better at lower speeds for start-stop all stations workings?
I guess it depends on gearing.Might well be quick off the blocks but have a long 6th gear taking from 75-100mph.

The important one is the 0-60MPH.
they are quite heavy units, but with an uprated MTU block should be capable of 0.75-0.8m/s/s which will basically match a sprinter

sure, it will spend most of it's life working 0-75mph,but the extra legs is needed these days, definitely 90mph capability.

PS for reference I would probably have a bit more trust in acceleration figures for a crush loaded unit on lickey incline!....anything else is a bonus!

Perhaps I being naive, but I keep expecting new units to outperform what they are replacing. Though it does seem I shouldn't read much into their 100mph top speed, as you say it's 0-60 that's important really.

So anyone know the 0 to 60 time then. I hear the 3 car 331s are one of the quickest emus at 30sec so it would be interesting to compare as well as a 750hp 185.

0-60 in 30 seems achievable with quite a few modern EMUs as long as they aren't a cut-down variety. The 345s can certainly do it as I've witnessed it and it feels like 700s (on AC) would be able to as well. I gather 710s are just as potent.
