Both excellent suggestions, and I'd have given it to Coldham Lane for meeting about 98% of the requirements for as correct answer even though it wasn't the one I had in mind, but as it's not a station I'm hampered... Sorry.

Clue: it's not National Rail.

Following that pointer -- Chillingham Road, Newcastle-upon-Tyne Metro?

Thanks.

Concerning Ireland's temperance apostle, English mess-up -- Mathew: "Nay !" v. pee'd-ness

The "Irish connection" is just to let me have one word of the clue. The "answer station" is on Great Britain's national network -- as above, a long way from Scotland.

Right -- anagram of "Mathew: 'Nay !' v. pee'd-ness".

It's your pledge to invite people to sign...

Description possibly heard from loco crew, of poor-quality coal which has hampered getting their train to this station. (All fuel must be brought into these parts by water, anyway.)

Ardrossan Harbour?

Afraid not. A bit of a tendency has been observable lately for people to come up in answer, with Scottish stations; when the correct one is a very long way south of Scotland. That applies to this question.

No. Location: a southerly Channel -- but not St. George's.

A wonderful variety of names suggested so far; but not the right one. Hint: it's on a heritage line.

I have one, again not on the national rail network:

Had team guides sat around here to watch the sports?
