I contacted OPC today and the gent I spoke to on the phone basically said that he did not believe that Southern/GTR don't use the VSE or the Magnificent 7 SJT and that if I took these online tests and for whatever reason didn't pass it shouldn't affect my Southern/GTR assessment day next mon the. Felt good about that but them had a reply to my initial email to them not commottling this information and strongly advising only having one application in at once and seeing it through to its natural conclusion. Seeing as am not being told a definitive answer I will not be risking my assessment day next month and will therefore withdraw from the MTR process. Thanks for all your help and guidance on this thread and wish you all the very best in your personal journeys in the process whatever stage you are at. Good luck all.

Bonkers. The Bloke on the Phone told you more than he should have. The email is deliberately non committal to avoid any liability on their part.

Anyway, if you are going to fail the VSE, then you will fail it whether you do it at Home on your computer or whether you do it at the Southern/GTR assessment day next mon, and its the same with the M7SJT.

The more applications you have on the go, the more chance you have of one of them being successful. MTR are taking on so many Trainees that if you pass the tests and if you do your research on the company the route and the trains then you have a much greater chance of getting offered a job.

Thanks for your views on it. I get it, just don't want to ruin my chance at my first ever assessment centre by doing these 2 online tests and mucking up. Working 12 hr shifts this week ( days and nights ) and not taking into account travelling time am pretty knackered and in all honesty after work my judgement and concentration are probably not great.

Has anyone still waiting for the VSE email heard anything back yet? I mean the initial email to take the VSE not the VSE results. Thanks

Evening Ruby,

Yes I am in the same boat. I applied for Abbeywood and completed the initial application on 12/06/19 and still awaiting on the VSE/SJT email. I still have more less a week to run until the 20 days MTR allowed for.

Gathering from the thread applications is formed in waves and that patience is the key. On the upside on the grand scheme of things Ie ‘railway applications’ it’s no time at all.

I wish everyone the best in their applications and assessments on this one!

Thank you for this. I was wondering if I was still the only one waiting

They could have saved a lot of people time and trouble if they had stated on the ad that people who have previously passed Psychometric testing or who have previously got through to an DMI with ANY Company need not apply.

Received an invite to do M7SJT and VSE yesterday afternoon and advice? Mainly worried about the part 3 of the VSE.

Where did you get that info? Seems unlikely but this is something that should surely be challenged if it is true as it's unfair.

Goes against equal opportunities surely?

Why say you can apply again in so many months if that's not actually the case. Also, your application with one company should not affect a job application for another (unless its an assessment like the assessment days in which they inform you of such). Also, some TOCs have their DMI before the assessment days. Goes against data protection too, as one TOC shouldn't be sharing info of who has attended a DMI with anyone, DMIs have nothing to do with the OPC

You still have to complete and pass the online tests with MTR regardless of passes at assessment centres. I'm currently a trainee, passed all stage 1 with a previous TOC and still had to complete these online tests when I applied. Once you pass these then your previous passes come into play.

Can I ask who did you sit it with previously? Was it with another toc that requires enhanced? I did mines with c2c but unsure if my passes will be good enough for MTR.

All toc's have their own online sjt. I passed everything to enhanced, but failed a dmi a couple of year's ago. Every toc after that I applied to, I had to do an sjt and sometimes other test's. some said no and three other's invited me to interview, now qualified with one of them three.
