I am getting no joy on recent trips on these units. I get connected OK, but it either hangs when requesting a URL or slings me back to SWR's own stuff. Anyone know what might be going on?
Changing over to a SR class 377 at Southampton was a dream as you get connected so easily and it works perfectly every time.

Just been on a pair and both units wouldn't let me online.

Had the same issue recently on a Virgin 390 out of Liverpool Street and a LNW 350.

Also in my experience Southern 377s have worked flawlessly* every time as have TfWs DMUs, some still show the SSID of the old ATW but let you on ok.

*apart from the usual black spots, tunnels ect.

I suppose I ought to tweet SWR but I have not the faintest how one does this, perhaps time to learn. I have used SWR's WIFI in the past and it worked OK and that using the same tablet. Thus I assume it must be them and not me that's faulty. As I wrote, I connect OK but then zilch. I didn't record the unit numbers unfortunately. One would think more would complain from the packed trains I was on but of course if you need twitter to do so and you haven't got a working internet............

Four trips recently, four failures.:frown:

Had plenty of issues with the wifi on 444's recently. It's rare I've been able to connect correctly or even at all between SOU and WAT.

I had trouble last week with the WiFi but I found I had to press a WiFi logo in the top right of the screen to log onto the WiFi properly (think it was on the swr homepage). Otherwise I was stuck with swr stuff.

That's very interesting. I'll look out for that next time. If any other member is travelling on these services, I would be obliged if they would try it out, even if they normally use their own service provider, just to see how they get on.
Meanwhile I am going to email SWR and complain. I can at least do that.

From what I understand the SWR fleet are changing WiFi suppliers so may be having interim difficulties for the time being.

According to posts on Twitter, South Western Railway have been doing a WiFi upgrade and that is why it wasn't working. I think it's been the case for 2 months or more, with at one stage no 444 and 450 stock having working WiFi. It would show up but wouldn't connect to the Internet.

However it must be said that many carriages seem to be working now. The 444s were meant to be finished first and then the 450s.

Not sure why the WiFi stopped working. I'd have thought one would have working WiFi whilst doing an upgrade. So WiFi is working in coach. Upgrade coach and WiFi continues to work. Rather than have all WiFi not work and then do an upgrade whilst it isn't working.

Others may have more detail on it than this

Thanks, just beat me to it. Makes sense. So it's not just an upgrade, which enables one to keep a service going but an upgarde with change of supplier.

I wonder if one contract ended before they could do the upgrades.

I've had loads of problems with it, however the other day it actually went straight to the correct icomera landing page and it seemed to work fine. I've never seen anything on the "SWR Stream"-branded pages that allows you to select Wi-Fi or anything beyond the "Continue" buttons.

SWR advised me that the infotainment (including new wifi) was meant to be installed when each unit had its refurbishment however the timing for this "has been revised". When they realised their contract was expiring, they started to do the work separately however could not do all before the wifi contract expired.

43055 is correct that to get access to the internet, you have to navigate to a 'wifi logo' once you are in the SWR¦Stream and then you get the old internet access page. SWR have moved to the same people as GWR. In my experience its awful however their website talks about a plan to improve by adding additional 4G masts and then rolling out 5G eventually.

I doubt that is obvious and I imagine a number of people will have said they have no WiFi working when it fact they do.

I read the Stream service is to be roll out to all stock by March 2020. Obviously that might change but its good to see it will go to the metro areas. Some journeys are of a reasonable length and I'm not talking about the delays.

Still if one is squashed in on a delayed packed train, watching some entertainment might help take their mind off the situation.

That’s on basis that it’s being installed in the new build suburban stock and Class 442s should get it on entry. Diesel services are due to be retrofitted later this year.

Not being installed on classes 458, 455, 456 or 707.

I can't post a screenshot as I'm not on a 444 while writing this but if you can access the SWR page then it is working. What you have to do is press 'Connect' then open up a browser such as Firefox and try to load any webpage, you'll be redirected to their streaming service. On the top right there's a button labeled 'Web' press that and it will take to the old sign in page from there you can just enter your email and connect like on any other train. Thankfully the 442s don't have the streaming thing yet.

I don't think GWR's wifi is too bad. On the 387's it is fine however slightly annoying that you have to log in all the time - pretty sure that when the turbos first had it installed, it remembered your email and logged you straight in. Haven't really used it much on the 800/802's to comment.

Thanks very much. I just didn't spot that logo in the top right hand corner and even if i had, I doubt I would have realised I had to click there. I had been told I was connected so i had no reason to believe that I really wasn't! I have already emailed SWR so await their reply with interest (promised within 10 days).

Well once the 701s are in, there won't be any of the above left. I'm still surprised those ever had WiFi. Well I mean the 455s and 456s.

Incidentally, if one doesn't copy the stream url using the button, when using a mobile or tablet, they will not be able to access anything unless they know the url or their browser has remembered it.

It's only when you go to the url that you can log onto the WiFi. Most mobiles close down the first login page once you click continue so you need to know to copy the url.

That's intuitive.
