Owing to overhead wire problems between Grantham and Peterborough, all lines are blocked, with major disruption expected.

LNER are advising people to defer travel to tomorrow.

Does anyone have any more info on the extent of the damage?

Some diversions are coming via Lincoln on the Joint line.
At lunch time noticed Azuma south bound & Sand train North bound
in addition to the usual ones. Plenty showing on Open Train Times
map of the Joint line !

1A18 - Azuma 800113 reported loss of power, upon inspection, a Headspan across all 4 tracks is snapped, Pantograph on unit fully bent back and damaged.

Unsure if train or overheads were at fault, as a result of the damage at Tallington, lines blocked Grantham - Peterborough.

Looking at Twitter discussions, one issue that seems to have come up is some EMT staff refusing to serve food to 1st class passengers diverted onto their services. I recognise that the argument will be used that food is a bonus and not part of the ticket price but, given the EMT will be compensated by LNER for the extra passengers carried, it does seem the kind of issue where the lost goodwill could cost EMT more. There is also the fact that some passengers’ tickets will have validity on EMT as permitted routes. It would be interesting to know if these are being offered the food.

You don't get food on EMT first class. It's chargeable.

Unless by food, you mean biscuits and crisps. If they are refusing to dish out a few biscuits, that's very tight, but they are normally pretty liberal with those items.

Customers will be getting delay repay anyway in most cases, so if they do have to purchase food, they will get that money back (and more) anyway and are still completing their journey.

Are they not being offered the chance to buy food off of EMT's very reasonably priced 1st class menu ?

I mean the snacks EMT provide. That’s why it doesn’t seem worth the loss of goodwill to refuse them.

Seems a bit odd as EMT's ticket acceptance notices to crews specifically state (and do today) "Please can you provide the same level of service to customers who have tickets in first class accommodation".

It certainly isn't policy to withhold any complimentary items.

What has happened particularly on Sheffield services is that they have become so full it's not been possible to provide the at seat service as they've been leaving people behind at St Pancras all day. 5 and 7 car 222s are not particularly capacious at the best of times.

I was on 1S09 (09:00 London to Edinburgh) this morning, which just missed the disruption (we passed Tallington 4 minutes before 1A18).

An hour after arriving back in Edinburgh, I got an e-mail from LNER saying that because of the disruption they were advising that passengers travelled tomorrow.

I would have thought that food was the least of the problems given the size of the difficulties today.

During disruptive incidents passengers should be given the same level of service regardless of whether they hold a ticket that would normally be valid for that route or not.

(If you experienced this, please contact EMT. If you are referring to an external source, such as a conversation on Twitter, please edit your post to include a quote and hyperlink, thanks :))

I'm not sure what is being suggested here. LNER offer a complimentary meal service, EMT don't. Are EMT supposed to offer their meals for free to LNER customers because they would be free on an LNER service? And do EMT then continue to charge their own customers or offer them for free as well? Obviously the latter would be ideal, but surely stock problems would be apparent which could lead to even further unrest.

It's referring to snacks, not meals.

But, at times of disruption, I do think passengers should have realistic expectations about what can be delivered and modify their expectations accordingly.

The Twitter thread is referring to snacks? This is where a link would have been helpful from whoever posted about it originally.

In that case, of course passengers should be treated equally. I had visions of people harrassing EMT crew members for Pork in Cider or Sweet Potato Curry.

If EMT are offering their regular customers snacks, they are required to offer any displaced customers the same snacks.

Of course if EMT are not offering anyone any snacks because 1st class is declassified or they are out of stock, that's fine.

Equally EMT are certainly not required to offer an enhanced service either!

But what they can't do is look at tickets and hand out snacks to some people and not others, discriminating against those who are displaced onto their own services.

The confusion is perhaps because @TUC referred to "food" and EMT offer a very limited snack offering, and it appears to be a reference to an external source without a hyperlink and quote (as required by the forum rules), which will hopefully be rectified by @TUC soon :)

Indeed, if they are giving out complimentaries to their 'own' but not those displaced from LNER then that is completely unacceptable.

Maybe it's this one? It's the only one I can find on there related to either food or complimentaries.

@emtrains your coffee is lousy and resembles dish water would not be on this train were it not for LNER journey cancelled to LDN. Your staff are also unhelpful! No complimentary food in your first class carriages???? you have spoilt mine and my sons trip.

If it is this one then i'm not sure they deserve anything!

The EMT crew probably thought the same and moved on. I'd have been tempted to do the same. A very strong sense of entitlement. EMT do not have to allow LNER passengers to travel, she should be grateful that they've allowed her to get to her destination and given her a cuppa.

A couple of other points: LNER coffee is also atrocious and EMT fares reflect the fact that the onboard 1st class service isn't the same level as LNER.

Not sure this thread was warranted based on the comments of one clueless punter.

If they are in a position to do so, yes they do.

To be fair, we do allow disruption threads if the OP is wanting travel advice; I assume @londonmidland was asking for travel advice as they ask if anyone has any more info in their opening post. (The other situation in which we allow disruption threads is where there is a news article linked to, and quote from)

Incidentally, when I arrived at Leeds this afternoon, the boards were advising London passengers to go to Man Pic for Euston.

All lines have reopened as normal, except Up fast blocked to electric traction.
From start of service tomorrow, electrics will high speed coast.
This evening they will use up slow.
