All lines have reopened as normal, except Up fast blocked to electric traction.
From start of service tomorrow, electrics will high speed coast.
This evening they will use up slow.

By high speed coast, do you mean that they’ll hit a part of the OLE that isn’t electrified and will coast until they pick up the electrified section? Just curious.

correct, travelling at a certain speed, they will pass a lower pantograph sign, they will cosst with no power, until they pass a raise pantograph sign. Then its onwards as normal.

Will LNER services be able to High Speed Coast and still stop at Peterborough without 'failing' in the dead section? Or is it the Up Slow for them?

Yes they will still be able to call at Peterborough without issue. Several miles between the problem area and station.

Well the lines are open. 1N33 HST from Kings Cross to Sunderland has just passed Grantham, definitely slowing from Peterborough. IN34 electric is heading north too.

I was due to travel from Stevenage to Leeds with LNER this evening, having flown in to Luton Airport a few hours earlier. As I was aware of what was going on, I opted to get a bus to Luton Airport Parkway instead of Stevenage, given that ticket acceptance was in place. The first train I was able to catch (as far as Leicester, where I changed onto a packed Sheffield service) was an HST bound for Nottingham/Derby - and there was loads of space on it, I got a bay of 4 to myself.

I guess most travellers aren't knowledgeable enough to think to catch a different service to the Sheffield one - or were EMT at St Pancras only allowing LNER passengers to board the direct Sheffield services?

I got an email from LNER at about 2 pm advising of the disruption, suggesting it would go on to the end of the day and indicating that other TOCs would accept their tickets (whilst mainly advising not to travel, or wait till tomorrow).

I dashed from Canary Wharf to Euston and got the 330 Glasgow train (changed at Preston for Edinburgh), along with quite a number of others. Euston concourse staff all knew the situation. Home before 9 pm after enjoying full VT FC service.

Would be interested in the economics of this. I had a cheap ticket (prebooked) for about £120 and was able to walk on to a West Coast train with it. Had I bought a ticket at Euston I guess it would have been £250 or so. Neither of my trains was crowded. Is it a case of ‘win some lose some’ or might VT bill LNER the full cost as if I were a walk-on?

Update - checked RTT en route and it appeared that roughly 1 in 2 Edinburgh services were cancelled later in the day, and those which departed (1800, 1900) left late. Plus plenty of other cancelled trains. A bad one.

Does any money actually changes hands between the TOCs when there's this level of disruption? I'd have thought that over the course of a year these sort of incidents tend to even themselves out between TOCs

Plenty of London- Leeds passengers & vice versa using EMT to and from Sheffield, all the XCs from Sheffield to Leeds have been absolutely rammed all afternoon!

Why couldn’t they divert all the HST services via Lincoln until they could solve the problem?

A lot have gone that way today. Some have gone to Newark (not calling) and then reversed towards Lincoln which seems a long way round compared with diverting between Doncaster and Lincoln via Gainsborough. I'm guessing route knowledge might be a factor.

And the usual on a diversion day through Lincoln, the actual Kings Cross-Lincoln service has been cancelled. No capacity/desire for one of them to make a call at Lincoln for those passengers.

That'll explain why the 16.00 Kings Cross to Aberdeen was noted as being in reverse formation on the LNER website, although it's now since been removed - I guess it was turned at Newcastle to have it in the right direction for tomorrow's southbound working.

I was taking an interest in that service because I wasn't sure which set is due to form the 07.52 south from Aberdeen tomorrow morning - this one, or the 14.00 from Kings Cross. It would have been good to not have to trek to the far end of P1 at Dundee to get to first class

I love the way that a ecml infrastructure issue affecting hundreds if not thousands of people's journies turns into a discussion about whether a very small percentage of those passengers should be offered some crisps or a three course meal......

Leeds to London via Manchester Piccadilly circa 12 noon - 4pm. First class.

TPE full and standing from Leeds in all parts of the train. Train manager did a good job trying to get as many people on as possible.

13.35 Virgin to Euston. Plenty of space. No issue with food. Coffee is better than LNER (not difficult).

No issues with ticket acceptance. Everyone knew there was a problem.

I have had worse journeys. Much worse. I suspect the fact that I set off around lunch time and not rush hour helped considerably.

If you notice, that's often the case. Once any initial issue is highlighted the questions get raised '....what about the food.....'.

Amazing.

I don't think it's billed per passenger.
Probably just a set fee per hour of transporting LNER customers.

LNER HST in platform 5 at Aberdeen has first class at the wrong end this morning when I went through Aberdeen

Seems to be all too easy to use this advice these days.
I'd suggest the majority of people who use railways can't "travel tomorrow".
I agree. I find it a very odd comment. If you’re already in London for a day’s visit, coming back the next day isn’t a ready option. Equally, if you have a scheduled meeting or family event, tomorrow is no option either. I’m really not sure who these people are who can ready shift travel plans to the next day.

Aye, I’m at Dundee now and it’s advertised as being in reverse formation. Very glad in this weather because the canopy runs out before coach M’s usual place!

It might also mean a trip over the High Level Bridge at Newcastle to get back the right way round, would be fun (in its own way).

I guess for business travelers some things might not be time critical or involve several people and could wait an extra day or if you are visiting a relative you might be able to go another day instead.

I accept that this won't be the case for a lot of people and I'd be annoyed as it would probably make a mess of my plans. For instance I am making a business trip up the west coast next week and I wouldn't be able to re-arrange as it has been organised in conjunction with a visit from a 3rd party company who undoubted won't be able to suddenly re-arrange.

Must admit I remain impressed by the speed at which the London North Eastern region of Network Rail can recover events like this. Looking at the carnage yesterday afternoon you'd think there would still be delays and disruption this morning but doesn't appear to be any sign of the chaos yesterday filtering through into today's service.

Yes, given the scale of the cancellations it's certainly impressive that more or less everything was where it needed to be this morning.

I think the only significant issue this morning is that the southbound Cheiftan was started at Perth - presumably this was because the northbound last night was 2 hours late into Inverness, having a knock-on effect on crew hours?

One issue later on might be the number of people who chose to travel today instead of being caught up in everything yesterday.
