Looks like today's 1V58 09:00 Glasgow-Penzance has terminated at Plymouth "problem with the traction" according to RTT..I think 43384 and 43321 are working this today, does anyone know what the actual problem was? Thanks,
Low power on 43384 and then loss of path.

Rumours (again) that Cross Country are acquiring extra HST’s from East Coast.

Nothing concrete but good news if true.

Not often I say this but I do hope to god its true - I bet more people would head towards (or to) Aberdeen to travelling to and from the South West if they went over to HST's.

What XC needs is enough HST's to stop Voyagers standing in for them. It would be great to have an end to that too!

These rumours have been flying around for ages. Given the fact the PRM mods are behind and the overall shoddy maintenance by Laira I'll believe it when I see it.

I was talking with an XC driver at Exeter St Davids back in April and he advised me XC are trying to acquire a 6th HST set, but apparently the final decision resides with the DFT, so as you quire rightly say, I'll believe it when I see it.

Is there any reason why Laira is so bad with the maintenance compared to Craigentinny? They have both maintained HST's since the 1970's, so surely they should be just as good?

Does anyone know of any alterations on Sunday 4th August? Thanks :)

BTW the usual diagrams are at https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/frequently-requested-diagrams.170615/#post-4100666 (not covering any engineering works or other variations) but as an interim measure only the headcodes are supplied; the full details will be provided shortly when mag_seven has spare time to do it :)
Thank you for the update on the frequently requested diagrams

For Sunday 4th August from what RTT says are these workings:
1V48 0810 Leeds - Plymouth
1S55 1425 Plymouth - Edinburgh

1V50 0900 Leeds - Plymouth
1E64 1523 Plymouth - York

1V66 1355 Edinburgh - Plymouth

Also no 1V54 0632 Dundee - Plymouth on the Monday (VOY vice HST) as no ECS path at Plymouth.

Are XC still going to be hiring in two LNER HST sets over the August Bank Holiday weekend?

Is it true that XC will be hiring in a couple of HST sets from another TOC for the bank holiday weekend to increase capacity, as I have heard rumours about this but don't know the details...?

What???! If that's true then it's about time! They should have been doing this quite a while ago like LNER hired one from EMT from July 2015 to like now.

Question is, if they are going to hire a couple of HST's then who can lend 2?

The reason I think it could be the EMT HST's is I believe they have a few spares - shorten to 7 coaches and they'll have roughly 50 seats less than the XC HST's. They have sometimes loaned one to LNER.

I'm not bothered about the Paxman VP185 engines (better than a Valenta smoking out Birmingham New Street) - extra capacity I'm more interested in!

We shall see.

I've seen it reported elsewhere that it'll be two LNER HSTs, spare because Kings Cross will be closed that weekend.

Someone is a bit giddy! I suspect it will be LNER as Kings Cross is closed over the bank holiday weekend

That's handy then - if 2 full 9-coach sets are used then how much minutes will XC have to tweak in the timetable because of their acceleration compared to 7-coach sets?

That's fine - MTU's will do (yes I did get a bit carried away there :))! It's the capacity we're more interested in.

I understand that 11 years back when XC hired 2 9-coach then NXEC HST's which they also provide a buffet onboard. I hope they do that again - I can see a 9-coach HST and a buffet with it being pretty popular with passengers!

Cheaper fares too I hope given more Standard and First Class capacity in these trains.

Assuming XC go ahead with this, they'll have to mention that First Class Coach J has no power sockets.

There will be no buffet service. There will not be additional advance tickets, in fact for the month of August advance ticket quotas and reservations have been reduced because of the Edinburgh Festival andECML engineering works.

Won't East Coast be needing them for their services via Lincoln? Bank Holiday Monday sees a half hourly service via Gainsborough. Thats better than what East Coast have provided in the past. Seems like a high reliance on Azumas entering service on time.

LNER coach J has plug sockets.

If they went on Manchesters they would possibly be involved with South Coast workings whose crews do not know HSTs

they do know. Manchester-Newquay used to be hst years ago. They try to avoid it from Manchester for some reasons

Moderator note: This thread is about current and near future XC HST diagrams; if anyone wishes to discuss the past please use the History & Nostalgia section; a thread to discuss the Manchester HSTs can be found here: https://www.railforums.co.uk/thread...s-from-manchester-on-summer-saturdays.187427/
