Of course you can also request the payment by cheque!

Indeed, but that then involves trekking to the bank unless your bank’s app supports remote cheque deposits.

I’m all for inconveniencing them, I’d just rather not inflict it on myself

I have had several for the same amount signed by the same person with consecutive cheque numbers- when paying them in the bank said they had seen several people with similar cheques!

And if you were late you can do a delay repay claim and get another voucher

I have earned over 50 of these in the past year thanks for Northern’s inability to serve my local station effectively. I have had a gap from regular commuting for 6 months, but just started again. After working my way through the last of my vouchers, I am back up to being due another 4 this week. They are the gift that keep on giving.

Does anyone know if there's any expiry date on these? I'm expecting a couple coming in pretty soon.

I always choose electronic transfer if available, and travel voucher if for any reason it's not. I've had the bizarre experience of being sent a cheque instead of my first choice on several occasions. I've never queried it, but it seems utterly bizarre to me. The cheques are cleared issued by hand.

Virgin Trains recently fulfilled my Delay Repay claim of £1.03 by cheque even though I requested an RTV. For their own reasons, they seem not to offer electronic transfer. Again, I haven't bothered to query it.

So I used one of my free tickets and was delayed by 15-29 minutes. Will they pay anything or will they argue that 25% of 0 is 0?

The thing is there is no valid single fare for the day's travel... it was the final train that was delayed so, if it is worth submitting a claim, perhaps I should just enter the trip taken on that train? After all I broke my journey several times

No compensation is due for a delay of 15-29 minutes if the fare is zero.

Had you been delayed 30-59 minutes, you would have been entitled to another free single ticket.
