Use of the Intercity title only seems to go with services starting and finishing in London, perpetuating the capital centric bias of all transport modes.

Crosscountry and Regional services connect cities eg. EMT/EMR's Norwich, Ely, Peterborough, Nottingham, Sheffield, Manchester, Liverpool route. That's probably more cities in one journey than any Intercity route to and from London.

The first Intercity route was Liverpool - Manchester in 1830*. They should have copyrighted the name back then. Inter-regional services deserve more attention.

*Although neither was then a cathedral city.

The period of copyright would have been something on the order of twenty-eight years back then, so it would have long since expired!

(A trademark would be more appropriate, but I don't know how they operated back then.)

I do dislike the use of acronyms as brand names. Of course to 99% of railway enthusiasts know what GWR or LNER stand for but much of the general public will not. The brand is a great marketing tool to sell to the public where the company operates too.

The EMR lettering looks so out of place on Best Impressions brilliant livery.

It looks perversely quite smart on the 153s:lol:

I suppose it's not that important in the scheme of things, but I wonder why franchise names are being changed from "Trains" to "Railway", as also Great Western and South Western. They are not "railway companies" in the sense that the pre-1948 companies were, owning their own permanent way and rolling stock. They are train operators, as the abbreviation TOC implies; they run leased trains and pay another organisation for the right run on its tracks. What do they actually own?
Best to ask the DfT about that as it's they who now specify the "Railway" name. I do agree with you.

And Wollaton Hall in Nottingham featured as the Wayne Mansion in one of the Batman films (otherwise centred on ‘Gotham City’).

Is this the first rolling stock to be branded "Intercity" since the days of BR (Swallow livery et. al.)?
Wasn't there a set of MK3 coaches which Chiltern used to run which were liveried with 'intercity' in a blue colour? Can anyone confirm? I think they mainly did Aylesbury or Banbury in the evening peak.

Quite right, as previously used by Wrexham and Shropshire. Though, in their case, it just happened to be on the stock already, and didn't feature in the rakes that they refurbished (the silver ones). It wasn't part of their branding.

The coaches all went to Chiltern when WSMR folded.

Let's leave the history of the "Intercity" brand here shall we? It's not particularly on topic for this thread.

Quite like the prominent Live Chat facility - it'll be a good way of getting answers to quick questions.

App (Android) not available just yet. Created an account on the new EMR site, got a welcome email with a link to download the app but not yet live.

It's just happily retailed me a ticket so it appears that the journey planner is up and running!

I reckon you have probably given some poor person at EMR a heart attack as they got a notification that someone had purchased a ticket on their website before it's even meant to be up

I'm half expecting an email from them cancelling the ticket (I've not collected it yet!) and issuing a refund!

Gotta be in with a shout of being the first person to buy a ticket from EMR I'd have thought as well <:D<:D<:D

Poor Matt, he was only testing :)

Provisionally though it looks like they're on the right lines with the site. I look forward to seeing the intended version in due course!

Abellio are getting excellent value out of that template - it's uncannily similar to the version deployed by their other franchises (and brands). Nothing wrong with that of course, it works reasonably well

Shame about the continued use of Trainline though - it's a bit clunky.
