So out of the dozens of Flirts now stored around Norfolk are 410 and 418 the only sets been in passenger service?
They'll be running out of storage sidings if not already.
I've never seen anything like this before with new rolling stock, not too that extent anyway.

Looks like the 755 is stuck at Cambridge right now because its just been reported there's a tresspasser on the track between there and Ely...

No there is one other, 409?? Plenty of room on the MNR still. Aparently almost all the legacy fleet would fit there in the sidings & loop.

Oh well they can take there time getting units into service then!

Not taking time. Everything possible is being done.

So what's the problem then? Problems with the units, Not enough staff trained, shortage of staff to be able to train properly?
Every unit has to do a fault free mileage i believe, this will take some time.
I can't believe how quickly there being built compared to the testing there getting.

They are a cracking unit no doubt about it i've been on 755410 on diesel only obviously, the best of the new bunch of units around, not perfect, but wouldn't expect that.
Good luck to all those in this project and Greater Anglia for replacing all there stock. The future looks good.

Greater Anglia really should be praying the south london artists don't find out where they are being stored and take a bank holiday road trip to see the stores units.....

Heritage line, isn't it? So it'll be live railway on a bank holiday with probably lots of people looking out at the sidings and an enthusiastic security response if anyone is seen tresspassing. Also the live trains may well be huge heavy steam engines which don't stop as nicely as modern suburbans! Not the easiest place to reach except by heritage train or private motor and if it is where I think then the nearest access is off a dangerous staggered crossroads then across a farm field, barbed wire fence and tree-lined embankment. Surely they will prefer easier targets!

That thought did make me wonder if uploading the various photos and videos were such a good idea...

Looks like 418 has suffered the camera fault yet again. 0809 ex-Cambridge will start Ely but rest of diagram commencing 0959 fast Yarmouths are all caped as no other option (except standby buses) are available.
Riding on 418 at the moment between Cambridge and Ely - very impressed. Even sitting next to the motor bogie at the front it's very quiet (and in the power car corridor under acceleration it's 32 cylinder dieselhead heaven....). As others have said, sitting right next to the power car you can hear and feel a bit of diesel vibration, but it's minimal and not intrusive in any way.

Good to hear it's still in traffic. Fitters are riding with it no doubt & monitoring those troublesome screens & cameras.

As you say it all takes time. Around 50% of Norwich drivers are trained which is the only depot needed at the moment. This training started in earnest last year but delays in unit acceptance meant many had to be retrained as went over the six months. You will hopefully see an influx within the next month or so ready for the departure of the 170 fleet. Crew training will then move on to Ipswich, Colchester & Liverpool St the latter more so for the 745s.

Is the main thing to resolve the restrictions on the diagrams they currently work due to the door issues ?

I’m fearing that once the 170s depart Ipswich is going to be dominated by Sprinters for the short term.

The ASDO needs to work before it can be used on stations with short platforms as the responsibility cannot be left on the driver. Routes out of Norwich trained first as it's the biggest crew depot using Stadlers & the home maintainence depot for the fleet makes sense. Unfortunately the plan is to cascade the 156 units onto Ipswich 170 diagrams for a short while as the transition takes place. There isn't an alternative I'm afraid.

@dk1 Do you know what the latest is on the first 745 coming into service?
Well they've been out & about lately. Passed 003 in Colchester up loop yesterday. Rumours of October but again everything is very fluid. Also rumours of up to five 90/DVTs being retained longer than planned.

Thanks for that. As they are so similar to the 755s, is it just one training course or do you have to do a separate course for 755 and 745? In the aviation world some aircraft are grouped into on "type rating" as controls and systems etc are so similar. Does this exist in railway land?
I smiled a bit at the possible retention of some hauled sets. It's just not possible to cover the service reliably (or at all?) with 10 sets. I wonder if there'll be a follow on order for some more 745s.

I would love to think we'd be getting extra 745s but feel we are lucky to get what we've got to be honest. It should all be covered in the training for 755s as apart from the number of doors, the only difference is the lack of the diesel power pack & the lack of multiple operation.

Luck hasn't been on my side today... The 755 running the 12:09 Cambridge to Norwich was cancelled, and based on the NC73 diagram I wrongly assumed that the 755 would run the 20:09 Cambridge to Norwich. I saw a 2 coach 170 approaching Cambridge, and I was just gutted. Hopefully better luck another day!

Some more Mk3s heading for sliding door mods then? Or maybe my joke in another thread about Mk4s coming to Anglia might not have been totally wide of the mark!

Thanks for confirming what I was fearing and expecting. Hopefully it will only be for a short period of time. Also a thank you for your contributions on here, they are very much appreciated.

Thanks from also, @dk1. Seems like a very fluid situation and must be frustrating for all involved. They are superb trains though :D

Agreed, seems odd that the unit can’t continue all day with guard dispatch, but hey ho.

I think I'd be less polite than "odd". Guard dispatch is either safe or it isn't - as it's used throughout the UK I would suggest it probably is. This being the case, passengers are being used as political pawns if trains are being cancelled with trained guards on board because the DOO cameras aren't working.

Better to fluid and getting them in as quickly as possible given the shortage greater anglia have rather than moving dates beyond October to get a perfect entrance.

It all comes down to the DfT & the 8 month long dispute. Humble pie for tea springs to mind.
