Are 67s still doing Manchester to Holyhead?

Anyone know what happened to the 1650 Piccadilly today? Cancelled. Was it a shortage of drivers who sign the 67?

It has just arrived in Llandudno and it is the 67s though so must have started short. Rather than cancelled and different traction used.

Just seen the Manchester set arriving at Frodsham and sure I only saw 2 coaches instead of the usual 4. I’m assuming a couple are out for maintenance.

67010 has failed at Chester this morning so the Manchester set is a unit. This morning’s Holyhead to Cardiff is also a unit due to power issues with 67014.

You've answered your own question

What I meant was - any further info? Think I heard it go through Frodsham about 7PM so was wondering whether it was a loco/coach issue and if it was indeed fixed that quickly.

Sarcasm unnecessary.

If I do find out later I won't pass the info on

Looks like the 1650 was cancelled and 67010 and the Mark 3s were on 1T31 that left Piccadilly at 1806.

Whatever, the whole of the evening peak on the route got heavily disrupted with trains even turning back at Warrington due to TFW trying to reduce disruption to a minimum.

Was an absolute nightmare as the next train was only 2 cars and was diverted to 13b at the last few seconds so lots of us couldn’t get on. I walked to Victoria and got the Northern one after that as those platforms were dangerously crowded as usual. I wonder if the unit with the dodgy brakes is the same one that started moving at Earlestown when people were still getting off a few months ago?

Yeah still not sure if it was a loco/coach issue. I *think* the loco was 67014 at the point of that incident, thought the coaches would more than likely have been the same, unless they’d been swapped out with some of the Cardiff-Holyhead Mark 3s.

Does anyone know why these locos are still being used on these services? Is it just because they’re still desperately short of DMUs or is there some reason why they’re more suitable for the route? If they’re going to cause the kind of disruption they did tonight maybe it’s time to pack them in.

Good question and would be interested to hear from others on this. Even with TFW ‘new’ stock on the horizon the plans are to keep the 67s, but to replace the Mark 3 coaches with ex-LNER Mark 4s (from Dec/Jan 2020 I think). So probably to do with capacity as they have, for example, 4 coaches on the Manchester set.

I guess that makes sense if the DMUs are a maximum of three cars. If the brake issues are with the carriages too I guess that wouldn’t be a problem once they get replaced.

As I understand it the Mk 4s will only be working Cardiff-Holyhead. All the Manchester services will revert to DMUs.
