They could certainly do with having one of the fasts stop at Normanton each hour to provide half-hourly throughout the day.

That related to engineering work taking place on the specific day.

Normantons best chance is when the Leeds - Nottingham gets diverted via Westgate, at which point there will be a replacement Leeds - Sheffield Express via Barnsley in the current Nottingham's path. This service would be a good candidate for a Normanton call.

Indeed. Hopefully the Nottinghams will be diverted soon.

But it could only call at Castleford in one direction unless the southbound platform was reinstated?

The service I use quite a lot from Retford to Sheffield has an enhanced service as part of the new timetable. I can't believe that the service that now only stops at Worksop before Sheffield is only 8 minutes quicker than the stopper that calls at 5 extra stops. Any thoughts as to why this is so slow, I know there's slack timetabling as the existing service quite often arrives early outside Sheffield and then sits in the tunnels for 5 minutes or so.

Since posting this in May, I've continued to use the "fast" service every week or so. Every time we have arrived at Nunnery and/or in the tunnels north of Midland 5-15 minutes early and then just sat there.
