Cracking gala as usual from the SVR lads.
Great value for £21.

All had during the long day
Only disappointment was missing the Clayton.
Weather not bad (managed to dodge a lot of the showers) & the crowds were manageable.
Even had an interesting chat with the chap looking after 50044 Exeter.
He went out of his way explaining absolutely everything during the engine room walk through & was interested to learn about my driving experience day I had with 50035
There were the usual borehead opinionated people but kept well away from those types. Just a stern look was sufficient enough to shut one of them up leaving Bridgenorth behind D4100.
Who cares if they’ve used the wrong lights in the observation saloon chaffinch during restoration. Get a life. I’m here to enjoy myself not get bored to death by you!!
Hats off to the excellent staff at the SVR who go out of their way to make you feel welcome. We are after all their bread & butter who help pay the bills
Other preserved railways (GCR) take note.
That’s why I’m a member at the SVR & not at the GCR at Loughborough even though it’s only 15 miles from my front door.
Then it was back to the hotel, shower, juicy steak & 4 beers then bed as I’d been up since 4am.
Roll on the next gala do.

Are you going to be on the 1650 off Bridgnorth? If so, where on the train? I'll be on that one too. :)

I ended up in the second coach behind Glorious and unfortunately I didn’t have any reception until we got to Bewdley. We’re having one last trip to Bewdley and back then heading home.
It’s much quieter now!

Sounds like an excellent time you've all had, need to make the effort and get down to the SVR Diesel Gala next time, last one I did was in 1991 or 92!

It was a great day out today, I missed @Peter C somehow as we always seemed to be in different places, but I did find @theblackwatch enjoying a bit of 20 action on the last trip we did back to Kidderminster...

how did you manage to snap that with an empty platform
Everyone had legged it to the other side for the 14/17 double header. We tend to take a more relaxed approach though.
I’m not so keen on jumping from train to train every ten minutes. ;)

The gala actually finished today. There was some spirited running and the clayton was in very smokey action.

The final non stop run saw the clayton pilot one of the 50's. I think the 50 did the work ;)

I managed to turn up today (would have preferred one of the later-running days but couldn’t fit personal commitments around that), and all in all it was pretty good - especially the last run.

Not massively busy, only slight issue on one of my trips was an elderly couple making a big fuss to the entire carriage about open windows - never a good idea at a diesel gala! In any case it was hardly cold.

I’m glad SVR have started having an October diesel event again, hope it continues as a permanent fixture as I find October better than spring.

I enjoyed it. thought the gala was decent and I was able to avoid the really busy day. Luckily yesterday the silly billy squad were not to be seen and only one person was noted to be doing that quasi fascist salute thing "bashers" seem to love. It was a pleasant, relaxed trundle even if the timetable did go a bit to pot

Attended the East Lancs Type 1-3 Gala Day a couple of weeks ago with @Cowley and these types were thankfully mostly absent there also, seemingly the only exception being one early teens kid and a full grown female! Other than that it was thoroughly enjoyable.

i hoped to meet a couple of posters at the gala ( perhaps we should have tried harder LOL) but it didn't work out.

the only exception being one early teens kid and a full grown female!

Each to their own but I just don't get the silly affectations, especially by kids who weren't born when the things they are riding on were withdrawn!

Nice shot ( built Darlo ;) ) I should get my pics up on flickr about Xmas time due to my current backlog

She was also at this one waving her arms around. That’s the last three galas I’ve been to now!

Yes - we always were in slightly different places - but we did cross paths at Hampton Loade! I was on the 1040 Kidderminster - Bridgnorth (behind D1015) and your train arrived a bit after we did. I looked for someone in the place you described - but couldn't tell who was sitting in which numbered seats!
That 40 did look really good. I managed to bugger up my timings at Bewdley and accidentally made a change too quickly, and found myself behind 40106 and not 50033! :( Anyway, the 50 looked good when I saw it arrive early at Kidderminster. I emphasise early because if I had been on that service, I would have had a 5 minute connection between it and the 37 to Bridgnorth! But no - everything went well. Then, at Bewdley, we diverged from the planned timetable again and went for the 17-hauled train, not the 14+33. Two engines I'd not have had for "traction" or "haulage" (whatever the cool kids say) otherwise! :)

I'll make a full trip report and publish it on this thread (or maybe the Trip Planning & Reports thread) when I get it sorted. I made a full recording of the timings of my first journey of the day - useful for a trip report I guess?.... :D

Shame I missed that 50, though.... anyway - there's always next year! :)
