Just got this email from TFL.

During our regular safety inspections we have uncovered a fault with some of our Jubilee line trains. As a precaution, we are removing these trains from service.
Services on the Jubilee line are beginning to wind down this evening. By the end of the evening only a limited shuttle service between North Greenwich and Stratford will be in operation. Extra buses between North Greenwich and Stratford will also run.
Our engineers are working around the clock to carry out inspections. However Jubilee line services will be significantly disruptedtomorrow morning and we advise you to seek alternative routes.
The remainder of the Tube network is unaffected, although the reduction in service will result in other lines and stations being far busier than usual.

Please check before you travel replan your journey or get live travel updates @jubileeline on Twitter.

We are sorry for the disruption this will cause.L.

Same - can't find any gen on what the issue is, but implies a fault has been found that needs inspected across the fleet over night. Not ideal timing after today's fun either. Any one able to give a suggestion as to what the issue may be? Perhaps understandably the social media team are giving a bland statement, but you don't pull stock for checks unless you have a concern.

Willesden Green shut when I arrived there at around 07:20 this morning so walked to Cricklewood. If I was more than 15 mins late would I put my starting station as Willesden Green with an explanation or Cricklewood with an explanation?

Willesden Green. It's about your journey, not just the train portion of it.

Is it possible to use stock from other lines to operate on the Jubilee line as an emergency measure?
I wouldn't have thought so; the nearest equivalent, and the only one matching the dimensions and kinematic envelope, is the 1995 Stock on the Northern Line. Both stocks will be configured for their own line, and even if you could, you'd end up with two lines being disrupted for stock shortages instead of one as the diagramming is quite tight on both lines.

Severe delays again this morning due to the issue. Anybody have any idea how long this will take to sort out?

All trains were inspected by the weekend, so it’s just a case of fixing the few units that are broken.

Cracks were observed on multiple units, at one point 2/3rds were out of service pending inspection or repair, leaving services operating between Waterloo and Stratford on the east side and Baker Street to Stanmore on the west side for a short while. Very much a crisis internally.

From the RMT:

Eight Jubilee Line trains have now been found to have critical failures to the draw gear, the bar which connects the coupler to the train, and have been pulled from service. Your RMT reps have had regular conversations with senior LUL management on this serious issue since it was discovered, with the latest news being that 8 critically defective trains out of 62 have been identified and removed from service. This is around 11% of the fleet. A further 12 trains are being monitored for draw gear faults.

We are told that peak services may suffer delays due to the lack of stock. As yet a fix has not been identified, with a timescale not yet known.

London Underground engineers have categorised trains in the following way:

Cat 1: eight trains / serious fault, train removed from service.

Cat 2: three trains / to be checked every three days.

Cat 3: one / train to be checked every 7 days.

Cat 4: eight trains / to be checked every 28 days

Given that there isn't a standard signalling system any more, even though any deep level train will technically fit, no.
I maybe wrong but are the 09 stock slightly bigger which means they can’t fit on any other line?

Correct.
Also 1996 are very slightly larger than 1995 at the crown of the roof, making the sides lean out a little; more importantly the 1995 lean in slightly.

Aren’t all Deep Tube trains series all slightly different in dimensions than one another ?

One source is suggesting that the cracks are in the newer cars (most trains ran as 6 cars initially, with seventh added later, alongside 4 new 7 car trains), from memory they were extended Christmas 2006

My own (passenger) experience is the ATO (installed in 2011) tends to be rather binary between bursts of power and coasting and braking especially in the busy peak hours, so wonder if this causes more coupler stress than on manually driving trains. Sort of suggests ATO shortens the life of the trains.

I'll assume from that that the answer to my question is nobody knows.

The latest news that has been made public is that from the RMT quoted and linked in message #12. It includes the sentence:
As yet a fix has not been identified, with a timescale not yet known.
So there is no need to assume anything.

the statement from RMT is the same as what I said.

I see the journey cost me £5.30 rather than the £2.90 it would have done if the Jubilee line had been running. Will TFL give me a full refund?

The TfL statement you quoted does not mention a timescale, the RMT statement does, which IS in answer to your question above.
Where does it? I've had another look and still don't see anything.

Where do the trains reverse at Baker Street? Do they continue empty to Charing Cross and reverse there?

They don’t. Trains don’t terminate at Baker Street, it is either Finchley Rd (there is a trailing crossover there), or Green Park (running empty to Charing +). The poster you quoted is wrong in saying trains run Stanmore to Baker St.

Interesting as there have been no indications of problems with the related 95 stock which was constructed around the same time as the first batch of the 96 stock

Which stock is the Waterloo and City line similar to? If the Jubilee line, have they also been inspected?

I suppose I'll wait and see although I'm surprised that what was effectively the same journey cost me almost twice as much.
