About 3 or 4 weeks ago, they announced that we should expect a week of delays, due to some signal work in this area. That's fine. But ever since then, there have been severe delays on this section of track almost every day.

But think of all those "free" journeys, an ill wind and all that.

Since when has the Jubilee line gone to Aldgate?

apologies, I had just been reading about delays between Finchley Road and Baker Street and still had that on my mind.

Aldgate and Baker Street can be averted but it needs several trains, whether its worthwhile depends on the length of the delay and the ultimate destination.

Just had a look at my journey refund history and October is looking to be the worst (or best depending on how you look at it) month in the last two years of using the Met/Jubilee lines.

"Failed train at Finchley Road" seems to be the current flavour of the month.

Two SMA boundaries and a starter?

If anything yesterday's Baker Street fiasco was more concerning for the longer term. Train emergency braked and ended up gapped over the complex of points on the approach to Baker Street (Met), with a train stalled behind. Hour and a half to resolve, which to be fair probably wasn't too bad in the circumstances, but still needless to say completely destroyed the Met, Circle and H&C.

Another difficult trip on the sub surface this morning. Fortunately I wasn’t delayed much, but I must have lucked out and found the right end of a gap in service. Just squeezed on and the train was absolutely wedged and lost time at every station.

I must say, this is far worse than my experience on Thameslink during the ‘timetable fiasco’ last year, and yet it has barely registered in the media.

Now that it is realised that trains can be gapped at that point an extra bit of 3rd/4th rail will soon appear.

It springs to mind that (if we have an accurate map) it would be very easy to have a computer check every possible train location and identify any that are gapped.

Might be worth doing now that we're losing predictable human driving habits, as "a train stopped where nobody has ever stopped before" is probably not going to be limited to this one incident.

Wouldn't need to be that clever, a bit of string, the length of a train with marks where the shoes would be located would do the job, only areas with points woulds need to be checked as there is no risk elsewhere.

When I was working for LU, I'm pretty sure that the engineers took a unit out to check the live rails following any track alterations or other serious track work. Perhaps a live rail had dropped below height on this occasion.

I also thought that trains carried a a pair of leads, one end of which plugged into a socket on the side of a motor car and the other ends were clamped to live rails. The train could then be moved a few yards to reach live rails. Perhaps H&S had them banned.

Trains do not carry Rail Gap Jumper leads, they are far too bulky and heavy to be carried on a train.

Instead, they are at locations where trains are likely to become gapped. They are not banned and were indeed used last week.

A got an email about that on Monday. Apparently software updates are scheduled for late this month and mid January.
