Nae when it's on fire though!

How can something be and i quote "a total non-issue" when it's also a "known issue".

A non-issue as in, it's not worth worrying about. Like I said, IMO(in my opinion) which I'm entitled to. I'd have very sore fingers if I took to twitter/forums every time I saw a vehicle producing smoke.

But it clearly is causing concern if ADL are looking in to it. Again even if in reality it's not that harmful it doesn't sit well in Lothians favour when trying to push the message that the bus is cleaner than the car.

Lol what? If you saw smoke coming out of your car exhaust I'm sure you'd be first to investigate it.

I probably wouldn't unless it was accompanied by other issues like loss of power or poorly running engine. Vehicles produce smoke, it's a fact, they all do it to some extent unless they're electric obviously.

Look, I'll say it again. It's my opinion. Told you before that everyone is entitled to their opinion, if you don't like it, tough titty. I don't see the point in running to twitter every time I see a vehicle putting a bit of smoke out.

But i'm not saying you're not entitled to your opinion, i'm simply questioning it and giving a counter argument, there's a big difference. fyi i don't go running to Twitter when i see a vehicle with a bit of smoke, but "IN MY OPINION" anyone else is more than entitled to do so.

A photo has emerged of one of the new Enviro400 XLB vehicles belching out white smoke from the exhaust system - note this is not my photo, if you want it removed let me know:

Lothian on Twitter have responded to people saying it is related to the heating system, which I find extremely hard to believe. I suspect it may be related to exhaust regeneration, but does anyone have the actual answer? Ta in advance.

The buses will be fitted with an auxiliary heater. They are renowned for letting off white smoke periodically.

I believe the fault ADL are looking at is to do with the exhaust gases ingressing to the cab

An apprentice asked "why arent they plumbed into the vehicles exhaust"

Good thing hes not a mechanic. Hes there to learn so that is what hes doing... just stick to the panels for now.

ADL are looking for a solution to the cab issue as well as the plooms of smoke. But in all honesty, sticking the exhaust that close to the cab is a bad idea. Sitting in traffic, if the cab window is open - its bound to enter the cab.

The main issue is the exhaust fumes are entering the cab even with the window shut, which as stated, ADL are looking into.

Is there something up with all the singles, like a shortage or something? I keep seeing routes on singles using Gemini 3's like every day. Last week the 36 and the 2, yesterday I saw the 20, and today one of the 66 plates is one the 63, which I never thought I'd see...

There are also quite a few used on the No1 and No24

....Whilst not common, deckers do often appear on the 2, 20, 36 and 63
(I dare say they appear on other routes normally operated by singles, but I happen to live near Longstone so see their routes the most.)

There's often a single deck vehicle deployed on the 63 that can't actually display the number properly. It shows either 6 or 61. Sometimes the destination is missing - can't remember if these happen together (ie wrong number and no destination shown). Not sure if it's the same faulty bus every time or if it's a common problem across the fleet. Operators shouldn't really be running buses with the incorrect route number at the front.

....ln an ideal world, you are correct, however we don't live in an ideal world.... roller blinds do slip and jam (I'm assuming it is a roller blind, not an electronic display) .... I'm sure a stuck reel doesn't come high on the priority list for maintenance, especially when you consider the size of fleet Lothian has, there are more pressing issues to attend to....

Just seen Skylink 434 operating a Semple Street 35 service, then change to an X33 - are some of the Skylink moving to main fleet duties?

Not sure if you really understand what I tried to describe.

The bus shows the wrong route number.

I can understand overlooking a few of the comfort factors or even something that might adversely affect people with reduced mobility. But surely a bus company can't think it is OK to have a vehicle in service that displays the wrong route number on the front. Admittedly the nearside LED display was accurate.

Still not a fan at all of how the staircase livery sits on single deckers, but it looks tidy and i'm sure the interior will be top notch.

Erm... I saw one of the electric Solos that are/were used on the Riverside Museum shuttle blowing white smoke from the Webasto exhaust once. Seems they have electric drive but combustion heating!

IIRC it's an oil-based heating system of some sort.
