Can a 16yo be pursued for travelling on a child’s ticket?

Have any of your daughters' friends' parents received similar letters? I suggest you ask around - if one did it, the chances are others did too. Probably best to let your daughter know that you are going to do this - you might find she suddenly becomes less vague!

However, the reason your daughter is being deliberately vague is because you are dealing with it all for her. I suggest that you sit your daughter down and ask her what she wants to do - fight it or pay the charge. She is 16 now, and it is time she was making her own decisions. You can pass on the advice given on this forum, but as far as I am concerned, she (not you) has to make the decision, and cough up the money if that is what she decides to do. Yes, you should still support her, but the time for making all the decisions for her is over. Part of the process of growing up is making your own decisions, and dealing with the consequences of your actions. If Mummy and Daddy are always clearing-up her messes for her, then she will never grow up, and you will be left dealing with bigger and bigger messes.

Indeed, I (or anyone else ) don't know - it is possible the OP's daughter didn't have a ticket at all. Until the OP has a serious chat and gets some answers, I can't imagine GWR chasing a debt for any reason otherwise

ISTR a parent is legally responsible for a child's debts, so that's legit.

In which case GDPR cannot be used as an excuse to withhold information from the parent. In any case, no one under 18 can have a debt.

Not worth it for me. My 17yo makes almost all his journeys within Oyster land so gets half price anyway, and free buses. For the odd longer journey he has a 16-25.
