Runcorn station platform 1 has to be a contender.
I remember my brother fell through the gap between the platform edge and a 304 back in the 60s I think it was.
The station has never really changed ever since.

Bishops Stortford Down Platform is going to be another contender, situated on a reverse curve that has to “overshoot” around the old signalbox so is a very constrained geometry. I understand someone fell under a train a few years ago and suffered life changing injuries.

I walked that site with NR probably going back 10 years ago now with a full remodel in mind, which would have included demolishing the signal-box, realigning the curve and lowering the track, and it still would have required a major rebuild of the platform. I think the prospect of having to close either the Station or block the Stansted Express for so long has pushed the whole scheme into the long grass.

Roydon a little further up the line was another awful one, as the Up platform was effectively falling backwards into the river, and a more recent platform extension had been built to a completely different platform gauge that led to a step between the old and new bits. That has been alleviated now though as it was rebuilt in the last 2 or 3 years.

Platform 1 at Raynes Park is partially on a sharp curve, and the gap is huge.

I second this platform as being #1 in my travels. Not just a large gap, but having to step up a large distance too.

My mum had her picture taken by the local press trying to get onto a train on Platform 3 (Up Fast) at Berkhamsted - but that was to show the problem of vertical height more than horizontal gap. The problem there is lots of cant as well as track height having increased over the years. Not sure whether it's got any better - just that it's pretty unusual for trains to stop there any more.

Hartlepool? I believe 150s are banned because of the stepping distance to/from the end doors. This must be one of the reasons why the second platform is not reopened as it would be unsuitable for 156s and 158s but OK for 150s!

The middle of platform 4 at Epsom; extreme gap plus there's a step up to the train for good measure.

From the posts it seems that SWR stations seem to have a particular problem with height. Is there any historical reason for this?

Cressington (before they altered it last year for the new trains) had an enormous vertical step-up. It must have been more than 12"?

I would reccomend Parton on the Cumbrian Coast, especially with boarding a loco hauled stock

Ty croes.

It has a set of steps on the platform for passengers to use to get on. The gap is ridiculous.

The step up to the train at (at least the westbound platform of) Lostock Gralam is pretty high.

That’s more height though eh? There’s not much distance from the platform to the train. But it’s a hell of a drop. I’d go with earlstown with a 150.

It’s not to be used other than in an emergency with mitigating measures because of the gap!
I seem to remember reading somewhere that if doors were opened onto P8 it counted the same as a wrong side door opening? Anyway, isn't York meant to be bad, haven't seen that mentioned yet?

Indeed, I seem to remember Norbiton as being another SWR station with a big gap, at least on the London (via Wimbledon) side

I'm going to suggest wherever this train stops, as you need to pole vault to get on it....

Bristol Temple Meads can be pretty dangerous in places, especially PLatform 3
