Hi all
I have recently applied for the role of crossing keeper , based at Littlehaven, and I,m currently trying to research the crossing. However the information I've found online seems to suggest that, in 2012 the crossing was changed to a cctv operated crossing , controlled by a signaller based at three bridges. Thus making the role of crossing keeper redundant . I was just wondering if that is actually the case , and if so what would be the need to have a crossing keeper based at the crossing? If that isn't the case and this is actually still a manned crossing, operated by the keeper himself , it must be the plan of network rail to have this controlled from three bridges, and I was wondering , how long would the crossing keeper they are recruiting be needed for? Thank you for any information you pass on in advance .

Littlehaven level crossing was upgraded from old-style manual gates to CCTV in 2012, but is still controlled by a dedicated crossing keeper at Littlehaven (who is based in the small station building, which is shared with part-time ticket office staff).

Think it's Grade 1... possibly a 2.

I suspect control didn't move to Three Bridges ASC as the relevant panel there is already responsible for several crossings. Sunset Route, of this parish, should be able to confirm.

The short answer is it staying a while longer even though the signalling panel at TBASC has a place for it, because the crossing sits on the boundary of the RRI (route relay interlocking) and the CBI (computer based interlocking) and proved to complex to wire in apparently. As a result of making the existing staff redundant during the failed attempt and because of employment laws the new staff now have a Home station of Three Bridges.

When the gates were manually, you would see the keeper turning a wheel to open the gates.

They were suppose to move to remotely operated when the keeper retired, but I don't think it ever happened and there always seems to be a keeper present.

The ticket office is often closed when supposed to be open, seems to be a shortage of available staff.

Hey guys, I have an interview for crossing keeper at littlehaven tomorrow, so I'm guessing they didnt move it to three bridges?
Does anyone know if it is staying at littlehaven forever now? Although that is a long time.

They apparently have the funding to now move Littlehaven as well as converting Parsonage AHBs to CCTV to be controlled by the signallers TBASC panel 7a, just the timescale appears a little hazy at the moment.

Thanks for the reply, does this mean if I got the crossing keeper job it could become redundant in the near future?
I will ask at the interview aswell, I dont want to be getting a job that wont last long.

It could be wise to ask about the future, you could end being more informed than us existing staff about how far the plans have progressed.
