Anyone know the subscription rate for ASLEF? They're about as transparent as a wall on the website.

It depends what grade you are (it’s less for trainee’s but I think it’s around the £30/month mark

Rule 4.3 states that it is a 'varying scale' though I believe it is based on salary as opposed to grade with pretty much all drivers on a standard scale with only trainees and those below £30k or on special circumstances paying the lower rate. The Retired Members Section is free for the first year of retirement and then £10 p.a. for subsequent years.

Cheers, I pay £20 atm with TSSA, so don't mind the extra after training. Do you know what the trainee rate is?

Do we know what that sliding scale is? As a trainee I'd fall under just the £30k due to the way my overall salary is structured.

I pay £4.xx (don’t know exact figure) a week. It’s not that much.

It took some digging out but the 2018 scales were -

Scale 1 £27.64 per 4 weeks - salary above £42'500
Scale 2 £24.36 per 4 weeks - £31'000 to £42'499
Scale 3 £16.94 per 4 weeks - £19'999 to £30'999
Scale 4 £10.52 per 4 weeks - below £19'999

Those who wish to opt out of the political levy pay around a pound less per 4 weeks for scales 1 and 2 and roughly around 60p per 4 weeks less for the other scales.

They will probably alter (in line % wise with any pay increases gained) around April/May

I view mine as a Train Driving insurance policy, you never know when you might need to make a claim on it.

This is brilliant, thanks! Will be less than my TSSA ones while training. That's useful!

I don't see why people join unions if they can't support its aims.

The political fund is one of the most important funds in it. How do you think the Union got so much influence and power?

I'm sorry, but it's a union that has political ambitions and thoughts. To opt out of its main fund is bizarre, and I would question any trade union member who thinks that way.

It's become a labour party mouthpiece and if I wanted to join the Labour Party I would have. I did not join the union to join it by proxy.
And what I take exception to is being told otherwise by members of the union

And when the entire journal is just Labour propaganda it is just an insurance policy and diary.
I want to read about current actions, bits about trains and stuff. Not a rundown and report on the party conference.
Again if that's what I wanted I'd have joined the party.

Because many see it as little more than an insurance policy.

Exactly!

That's certainly my reason for joining. I certainly haven't joined for its political standpoint or because their methods and conduct are inspirational.

I pay them to represent me, if I chose not to support the Labour Party, so be it. I’m gonna put my head above the parapet here and say I don’t even agree with a lot of what unions do.

Anyone checked next year's diary? January has some days missing in a colleagues diary, no Thurs, Sat or Sun at the end of the month. Not checked mine so don't know if they're all the same

You could take those days off, then have the Union represent you if the company states you are absent without leave.

If the days don't exist, you can't work them.
